Agree, I see all makes and models of white vehicles with pealing paint. I wonder if they all pretty much use the same manufacturer for thier paint or of something else is going on.

I’m not an expert on paint, so if this is dumb, my bad. I painted a fence once and stayed at a Holiday Inn.

Would having a body shop prep that surface and spray a clear coat over the current paint job prevent flaking?

Just got back from my appointment and they want me to take off the Prinsu roof rack with RTT attached, and my shell because they want to “blend” the doors with the body. I would’ve been happy if they just fix the doors, but they won’t do that. What else have other people been told?

Also, they said estimated repair time is 12 days- me thinks my local dealer is trying to milk corporate for everything they can...

HFS  I just called the largest Toyota dealer in my region with one of the biggest collision centers I’ve ever seen and they said the repair would take 2 to 3 weeks. They said they would cover a rental during that time.

The other thing they said is that they could just do the door frames if I wanted so I don’t know what the heck is going on with my local dealer.

Just got off the phone with Toyota corp - they are not requiring shops to blend painting into the body - but they also didn’t say not to do it.

Blending would provide a better paint job, but this gives people who have racks and camper shells the opportunity to request that only the doors get repainted if desired. Thus removing a roof rack or camper shell is not required if you don’t want to do it (and if the shop doesn’t mind you leaving them on).

They also provided me with rental information:
They are only authorizing up to $60 a day at sublet level RT (whatever that means) and for a maximum of nine days only.

Just got mine back from the body shop, they did all 4 doors and both front fenders. They also installed all new rubber trim around windows and door gaskets and matte vinyl wrap on the door pillars.

Can you tell a difference in color from the bed/hood?

No it’s spot on. Only thing that differs a little bit is the shine because the rest of the paint has a little bit of oxidation to it, but after I get a good polish, it should all be pretty well matched.

Dropped mine off yesterday morning. They gave me a brand new gen 4 SR5 as a loaner. It's nice, but I want my truck back :) They said they're doing the hood, all 4 doors, replacing all the plastic trim, including the black plastic part of the bumper that is notorious for coming loose.

This is really smart move for Toyota. I can't imagine another manufacturer doing this.

Finally able to drop off my truck and get a loaner, however the service representative stated that the fender flares (TRD Off Road) would be reused and would not be replaced..

I suppose this is better than nothing on Toyota’s part.

I’m actually happy about that as my fenders (TRDsport, color matched) are trimmed. But if you have faded black fender trim, there are many products out there to bring life back to them.

No. It's like spray paint but doesn't look like spray paint when it goes on. Weird but great stuff. I had all the plastic done on my second gen and stayed black for 2+ years.
