Hello everyone. I have a '99 Tacoma that I will take with me when I will relocate from Canada to North of Atlanta, Georgia. Probably I will need an out-of-country inspection of the pickup truck. I would like to know what this will consist of. The frame has a patch, I am wondering if it will pass this inspection. Thank you.

Georgia has emissions testing in Atlanta and Savannah metro areas, I believe, but no safety inspections. However, I don’t believe that any province in Canada has titles like we do here in the states (just registration). It might take longer to get a Georgia title when bringing the truck from Canada than if you were relocating from any other US state; New Hampshire is the only state that does not issue titles for a vehicle as old as yours, I do believe…

Be careful just how you talk to border agents:

my buddy’s parents (rich) retired to ranch in Saskatchewan….moved from Texas.
Buddy agreed to drive the F350 truck from Tx to Ca. He pulled up to the border(pretty sure pre 911)
    Usual Q’s
    Where u from?
    How long visiting?
Where u from? (Nice trick they always say)
    What’s purpose of your trip?
Buddy explains “Parents retired to their dream home and I am delivering their truck”

border agents made him pay taxes on the truck as vehicle was not going to leave Canada!
(Of course call to parents to pay fees ensued)

    just saying
Just have a story in mind and rehearsed
They don’t need to know that you will never return (for example)
Then deal with DMV in Georgia for title/tax/plate fees

Make sure to have the Passport ready for the border agents just in the case.. Otherwise, they may not let you go unless you tell them the reason you go to GA for.

Make sure lights, horn, turn signals are all working including the foot brake for tail light and 3rd brake light before going to the 'out of state' inspection place.
