The new hybrids are pretty notorious for oil dilution. I have a 23 Prius with 15k on it and the oil smells strongly of fuel and looked similar when I changed it. I do it every 5k , Toyota care will only do it every 10k..

That was a clear water bottle before the oil entered.

 

I see that reddish looking oil from time to time. I asked about it on BITOG forum and they said it’s an additive in the oil.
I don’t know how accurate that statement was but my in my 392 Hemi, it drains a reddish color as well. I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 exclusively in that motor.

 

Yeah I don’t understand how people don’t get that. It WAS clear, then I put oil in, and swirling it around to show the colour in the sunlight.

That’s good to know, if it is oil I’m suspicious that while my mom has been paying Toyota to change the oil, they just pocket the money and say they changed it because it can technically go twice as long and so they think she won’t notice. Either way still a rip off if that’s the case. Blackstone analysis will reveal all

 

Lol please, I did "Free" factory oil changes with dealership and they barely put the engine oil cap back on, overtightened the oil drain plug bolt, and oil filter housing itself. Btw, they never rotate tires either.

I am not saying all mechanics who work there are bad, but all it takes is 1 to mess it up and we all know we aint going back there.

As far as oil, can you maybe put finger in and then put it on paper towel, see if its really that color or its just plastic bottle is making it look like that.

ive never seen red oil, black for sure, but red? no idea how hybrids work, who knows might be ok

 

I don't know if they are different engines in the hybrid, but the oil in my mothers '22 Corolla looks like new after 5k miles, and that car only does short trips around town except for when I borrow it to run it on the highway for a bit. It's her fourth Corolla, and probably her last car at the age of 83, she just loves the things after driving big American cars until the 90's.

 

Does the oil have a salty taste to it?

 

The "90's" was a long time ago.
Your mom was fairly young back then as was I and American cars aren't big any more neither.

Used motor oil usually looks used, even if it is amsoil.

I’d send in a sample to Blackstone (as you mentioned), if only for peace of mind.

 

Mobil 1 0W30 comes out of my truck with a dark reddish color. Despite my best efforts pinning the throttle past redline at 7k, the engine hasn't blown up yet!

 

That's prolly the best thing for it.

Cook off those impurities with some quality heat loads.
