My truck felt sluggish for the past few months but was told there wasn’t a problem. Recently it revs slightly before engaging in gear. While driving, you can feel the transmission change gear when going down a hill. The dealer service department said the torque converter needs to be replaced. Is it just the torque converter or the whole transmission? Don’t want to spend 2k on torque converter and then another 6k on transmission. Anybody have a similar experience?

Take it to a reputable trans specialist.

But curious, how many miles? How often has it been serviced (fluid changed)? Have you had since new, or could it have been abused in a previous life?

Bought the truck 6 years ago with 34,000 miles. Have stayed on top of maintenance at dealership only. I’m a fairly cautious driver and typically speed at 9 miles over the speed limit when driving long distance. Have driven from Florida to Savannah, Seneca SC, and West Virginia a multitude of times. I did haul heavy loads a couple of times.

Has anyone checked the fluid level? How many miles on it now? At what mileage(s) was any service done to the trans and what was that service(s)

It has 90k miles now. The truck has had all regular scheduled maintenance but don’t remember specifics on transmission. Fluids were just checked and they were ok.

It's fairly easy to do a DIY fluid drain and fill. May be worth giving it a try. Do a search there is a detailed DIY thread on TW.
