Hello, I have a friend who has a 2013 Tacoma. His personal insurance policy is being non-renewed in CA because the truck was originally registered commercially. My friend is retired and only uses his Tacoma for personal use. Can he change his registration? Thanks

    4 run, 2 don't
Every truck ever is listed as commercial in CA.

You should have your friend go with a reputable insurance company.

If a truck has an open bed in California it is a commercial vehicle. Adding a cap or a tonneau cover can make it a personal vehicle

One benefit of having a commercial plate is that you can legally park at yellow curbs for 15 minutes I think.

That doesn’t solve the insurance problem though.
