    Shoulders turned out fine. It’s nice having chopped meat in the freezer ready for tacos, chili, etc. Smoking the shoulders is about the only way I feel like I don’t waste meat. Once all the connective tissue dissolves it’s all meat for the pot.

    I saw the shorts and knew it had to be northern MN. I lived in Grand Rapids for 8 years and have never seen so many people who wear shorts year round - even at 50 below.

    So, my MN opener story...
    Saw a doe at about 8:22 am out in the swamp. 25 years ago I would have shot it and put on my waders and retrieved it. Getting too old for that. Went to lunch in town and came back to the property for the evening sit. As I was finishing my gas station coffee and checking my phone while sitting in my truck, I noticed movement on the passenger side. I look up to see a fork horn standing 10 feet from the passenger window. My rifle was in the case in the back seat. I tipped the seat back slowly and grabbed my rifle as he went around the front of my truck. Got a round chambered as he was walking away. I opened the door quietly but he bolted. I ran about 40 yds after him and he threw up his tail and was gone.20241109_134403.jpg
