Bought my truck used last year in October 2023. It had 7900 miles and was advertised as a 2023 Tacoma TRD SPORT 6MT. however looking at the build date it was built in late 2022 and began life purchased by the original owner on Dec 13, 2022. (Or maybe it was built on Dec 13, 2022. not 100% sure.) in any case, does this make my truck a 22 or 23? Thx

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Usually manufacturers start producing the next model year later during the year (i.e. start producing 2018s during late 2017, 2022s during late 2021). My old S2000 was built December 2005 and it’s a 2006 car.

You can check the Toyota app or its CarFax to see what model year it is. It’s probably going to show that it’s a 2023 model year

According to fleet ordering websites, production for model year 2023 Tacomas started in Aug 2022. The build date is on the door jamb label. If it's Aug 2022 or later, it's a 2023 model year.

Is the 10th digit of your VIN a N or P?

10th digit of the VIN always designates the model year, build date is when it was built but it may not be the same as the model year.

The Pro/Date or production date normally on the door or B pillar is used mainly for parts replacement, I have seen a pro date from Jan/1994 on a vehicle that was not made until 1995 model year.. Some manufactures might change X part during the model year (have seen many change every 3 or 4 months) and the parts people will need the pro date to order the correct part (possible supplier change or something)...

The fed sticker under your OEM hood will have the engine size as well as the correct model year, but as already said, the VIN on the dash is the best place to get correct year...

My truck was built in August 2009 and purchased new by my dad in September 2009. The title, insurance card, registration, etc all say it’s a 2010. I believe that after June or July, it is considered to be the following year, but there are exceptions. My friend owns a junkyard and had a charity event last month for an animal rescue where you could donate money and smash the shit out of a junk car. The car chosen for that noble purpose on this particular occasion was a 2006 Mercedes S430 with a manufacture date of April 2005 if I remember correctly…
