Rockhounding yesterday at the Aurora Mine, near Idria, Ca.

 

Got her stuck in my own driveway lol. We got absolutely hammered with about 26" of snow here in Southern Colorado.

 

I would only mildly consider it “off-road” but I took my ‘23 Tacoma down the beach where I learned to drive in my dad’s ’84 Toyota pick-up some 33 years ago.

 

Found anything interesting? We were looking for jewelry grade jasper. Funny though, all the good jasper sites we visited were all Native American knapping sites first- flakes and cores everywhere. They beat us to the good stuff! We looked at and admired it, but left their stuff alone where it lay.

Do you know the tire size/suspension setup on the silver tacoma with the white wheels?

 

We weren’t at the mine for very long, but we did manage to bring home somewhere between 15 to 20 lbs of serpentine rock that appeared to have interesting stuff in it. I can’t speak for the abundance of jewelry grade jasper, but I would venture to guess it’s there and free for the taking.
