Guys, Discount Tires jacked up my truck at the rear control arm bracket. When I saw them doing this I got sick to my stomach. Is that acceptable? The metal doesn’t look thick enough to support that kind of weight. The manual certainly doesn’t list that as a jack point.

I think it’s probably fine but I cannot tell if it’s ever so slightly bent? I don’t know. Is this normal? The guys said they do it every day. Seems dumb to me and really lazy. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. If you need more pictures please advise. Tagging @Discount Tire

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’m gonna say it’s probably ok but if the truck must be parted out, I would appreciate first dibs on the dash and seats. Thanks!

I can also sell you the scrap metal after it's all parted and sold. If I were you I would just melt it down.

I think you're right, but man... that metal doesn't look thick enough.. but I guess it is. I will never let anyone do that again.

Ideally, No. You wouldn't "want to" use that as a jack location.
You also would not want the customer to see you do it, if you did it.
Which is why a lot of shops, don't have widows to the service area.
And if they do, they cover them with signs.

    I can see both sides.
To me, I'm not too worried about it.
The rear of the truck isn't that heavy. It has less that 25% of the total weight on it.
And the lift isn't slamming into it.

    It's fine.
    Not ideal. But fine.

I agree. It just gets tiring when nobody wants to do anything correctly anymore. It’s just faster cheaper dumber forevermore.

I had a discount tire jockey lift a 4th gen f body with a jack directly under the front fenders. Those are unibody cars btw. Completely fubared the car. Over 4k in paint and bodywork later.

I've lifted my 3rd gen with a jack under the leaf spring bolts in a pinch when rotating tires without jack stands. A floor jack on the frame by the front door and a floor jack in the rear under the leaf spring bolts. One side at a time, so the e brake can at least hold one rear wheel. :anonymous:

Only need an inch or so of clearance to remove and rotate. :humble::crazy:

I liked it when @Discount Tire monitored TW and would chime in. Since it's your truck, it's probably fine... But seriously, I get it, that would bug me too. That metal does kind of look like I could bend it with needle nose pliers. It'll probably rust off first anyway.

Rust off first, yep. OP's got white paint too. That'll probably start flaking off soon. Another thing to worry/obsess over. :p
