Kinda went down a rabbit hole the last hour on this. Found a couple of threads that make my head hurt. What I gather is that the early 2nd gen used a fairly regular flasher relay. Once they went to DRLs, the flasher became a module that would switch the DRL off and connect the turn signal. There doesn't seem to be an easy solution for that short of a wiring harness to disable the DRL and go back to the old style flasher.

Also what I gather from those threads is that while changing to LED bulbs may not trigger hyperflash, the passage of some time and humidity in the air may cause enough resistance through very mild corrosion of a connector to trigger the dreaded hyperflash.

The module can be modified, it's a little involved. What you run into is the interaction with the circuitry for detecting a burnt out bulb. Seems that the resistor route may be easier to do. Nothing is simple about vehicle wiring any more it seems.

I started with Alexa initially because there was the most devices supporting it but eventually swapped them over to being controlled by home bridge and now have moved completely to HomeKit. I have a whole lot of automations set up.

ive noticed its become a problem when i travel cuz then I have to flip switches manually in the hotel like a peasant

Thank you Rich for the more scientific approach to this subject than I gave.
I personally don't believe in switching out regular bulbs for LED.

Now back to your regular scheduled program.

yeah same but thats because I dont flip any of my switches any more.

also if I did, then the light would be off until I flip the switch agin. much easier to just ask or use my phone.

Interesting. Not surprised that it would get more integrated than a traditional relay over time.

    The question that remains is,
Will it see dirt again or will it live out it's life in that fancy showroom garage? :D
