I had a crank no start a few months ago...twice, the truck was running great. The first time it happened I stopped at the post office for a few minutes...no start. I replaced the fuel filter cause I thought it sounded like a fuel issue to me. It started and ran great for two days, then wouldn't start. I got it towed home and found the fuel supply was fine. I found a spark issue and tracked it down to the insulation being stripped off the wires going into the coils. Looked like someone clamped them down under the valve cover? The copper wires on the positive and ground going to one of the coils were touching. I replaced the connectors to both coils to bypass the exposed wiring. I also replaced both coils thinking the short may have messed them up.
It didn't change the issue. After further testing, and replacing some sensors I read a suggestion to check the color of the spark...it was yellow. I then found out how to test the coils. So I'm finally getting to the issue I'm having now. My repair manual says that the primary windings should have 1 ohm resistance. Both of my multi-testers (one with a dial and one auto ranging) says the resistance is thousands of times that! At this point I've tested 8 pairs of coils, all of them are way out of range? My guess is that's why the spark is yellow? If anyone has experience with this issue, I would appreciate some advice. This is on a 1999 Tacoma SR5 xcab...

    Yellow plugs?
Like the electrodes and ceramic insulator?

if rust colored, tell tale sign of Head gasket issue

8 different coils and they all have a bad reading?
    What brand are the coil?

    Something doesn't sound right here.
Can you show us what setting you are using on the meter?
    Maybe a picture?

My coils are wasted spark...but, yes I tested them that way. No dial on the auto ranging meter, lowest setting on the dial one showed nothing. Both showed the same reading on each coil, most around 365k ohms on the primary! Secondary was in range on all the coils I tested...no codes since I repaired the wires leading to the coils.
