I have been dealing with the moonroof creaking with body flex and also while simply driving down rough-ish paved roads.

First time around the dealership replicated the issue and "tightened down" everything in the moonroof area. Creaking solved for one day, then it reappeared.

Back at the dealership again and they are saying it may just be due to the colder weather and the seal. The sound can easily be replicated by lightly pressing upward on the front passenger side of the moonroof (on the glass) when closed. Best way to describe it is it sounds like the whole moonroof unit is not properly seated or tightened down. Additionally, tilting open the moonroof results odd creaking from the motor (video).

Is anyone else experiencing this? I had no issues at all with this for the first 5,000 miles. I'm not buying that this is normal behavior, either. My last three cars over the past 20+ years have had moonroofs and this has not happened.

    Thoughts?

The colder weather thing is a legitimate theory. In my 2016, I had a creak in the A-pillar suddenly appear when the cold weather first hit. It would come and go as the daily temperatures rose and fell, then one day I guess everything eventually settled, and it just kind of stopped and never came back.

Lived in IL, NJ, AL, AZ and never had a creaking moonroof on any of my 3rd gens. Sounds like a we don't know so lets say that excuse.

Cold weather, clearances open up, hot, they shrink. Manufacturers have to cut the difference between the two which can be a pain since one can end up in Alaska and the next one off the line, Nevada.

Dealership came back and applied grease to the rubber seal around the moonroof. Sound has gone away completely.

Silicone spray is a cheap and easy fix.

Is it the rubber seal around the glass creaking against the opening in the roof? If so, that’s an easy fix.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Close the roof on a 1$ bill. Drag the bill around and anywhere there is little to no drag would be the spot to adjust, I would think.
