Curious, did they specify if it's a new or rebuilt? I am not even sure they offer a rebuilt,, but just curious.

Good Luck, I hope it fixes it!

'Tomorrow' would have been the 8th.

So is the new unit in? Problem solved?

We wait. Because we like to know results of problems so we can learn.

Thanks for following up! I did drop it off on the 8th.I got the call that it was finished on the 13th. I had some work travel this last week so I am going to pick it up tomorrow. I'm stoked to see if it's driving better.

I'm pretty pleased with the dealership so far. I initially told them about the issue on 11/2 and it was diagnosed, parts ordered, and potentially fixed by the 13th.

I have the same Year/Model but am the only/original owner.

Drove it for a year before getting the OTT Tune.

My knowledge about the complaints of the automatic transmission only took light since joining TW 4 months after taking ownership.

This is my first new truck and I can honestly say the transmission behavior is slightly different from my wife's 2017 Elantra auto transmission.

Obviously, the truck being heavier, 4-Wheel Drive, riding higher is a different animal.

There are slightly noticeable quirks about the Sport's transmission...that which the ECT makes improved adjustments.

Overall, I've been happy with my truck's performance since I took ownership on May 14, 2021.

EDIT: OP - I hope the new transmission makes a significant improvement in your driving experience.

    Hey everyone,

I did pick up the truck this morning and immediately took it on the highway. Right away I could tell that the truck was driving much better. It felt like I had more power when I stepped on the gas and the constant shutter around 40-50mph was no longer present. I can definitely still feel some of the jumpiness in shifting but that is more in line with what I expected the truck to drive like based on what I have read from others. I'm fine with that and can live with it as long as the other shutter is not present.

The guy I was dealing with at the dealership could not give me an exact explanation for how they determined the old transmission was failing. All he could tell me was that their diagnostics determined it should be replaced. He did confirm they replaced with Toyota parts and it was a brand new transmission not a rebuild. The notes on my paperwork state "Test drove and verified that at 45 MPH you can feel a faint vibration. connected scan tool, started recording, test drove and when right around 45 MPH I flagged the vibration. The saved data and noticed that when I flagged it, the torque converter was in lock up mode."

The same paperwork says the worked ordered was "transaxle replacement. Transmission with torque converted, ws transmission fluid"

Thank you all for your responses and input. It was great to hear from everyone! I will try to remember to follow up to this thread if anything changes or with an update in like 6 months or something.

I am curious was the transmission brand new or remanufactured. I have a 21 TRD OR and have been having issues with humming sounds and when I shift from any gear to Drive, the truck jolts forward. I took it to my dealership, and they stated the transmission needs to be replaced. All they could tell me was the fluids were good, the outside of the transmission looked fine, but they could hear something loose inside the transmission. I am nervous to get anything other than a brand-new transmission. I just bought the truck April 30th, and it had 30k miles on it. It is also Gold Certified, and I got the Bumper-to-Bumper 100k mile warranty

The 3rd Gen Tacoma has already been out of production for 2 years, remanufactured transmission might be the only thing available now. You would have to read the fine print of your warranty, but it probably lists remanufactured parts as an acceptable replacement.

    UPDATE:

The tech was wrong about the transmission. The rear differential needed to be replaced. No cost to me. Everything is fixed.

Thanks for the update. But WOW. Transmission to a rear diff? Anyhow, glad it's all fixed.
