2017 Taco weird issues

So where to start

ENGINE CAME OUT OF EXACT SAME BROTHER TRUCK A FRIEND OWNED THAT HE WRECKED TRD SPORT 3.5.



2017 taco, trd sport 3.5
had the balancer replaced at a shop, they did not torque the crank bolt and crank worked itself loose and destroyed crank, replaced engine with unit from salvage yard(87k miles) verified all timing marks are proper, verified everything else, used all my engine parts swapped to other engine, now with new engine we cant rev it, cant drive it, goes to 2300ish rpm and falls on face and will shut off. have snap on scanner, when this happens has codes for,
RANDOM Cylinder injectors can be 1-6 and random number of them, that is all, sometimes get some weird codes but dont have those atm. anyone seen this before?
New crank sensor from toyota, new pigtail from toyota, all grounds have been verified, all connectors are connected, im lost here.

Are you sure that the used engine came from a Sport? The Off-Road & Pro uses a different version of the engine.

Engine was pulled out of a friends truck at local LKQ yard

 

Like said above the 3.5 engine looks identical but is not the same in a TRD offroad as a TRD sport. If you are sure that the correct 3.5 was installed, than it sounds like a wire got pinched or a ground was left off. A random misfire code is common with grounding issues.

 

Was it a Sport? Off Road? SR5?

 

That isn’t true…. It’s the exact same engine

I maybe misinformed if this is the case ^^
I thought the heads were different? So technically the short block is the same but the heads and cams would be different because of the vacuum pump used.

Looks like the difference is a cam and block off plate.

Sorry guys have been busy
Engine came out of a LIKE TRUCK, i had a friend that wrecked his truck(same as mine like to the t just a few months different purchase) correct engine is in truck.
So as of now, new crank sensor from toyota, no codes and when it does throw codes its for injector circuit codes but rev engine and it acts like its dying not getting fuel etc.

Both trucks are TRD SPORT 2WD 3.5 trucks and i know its his engine as that was a requirement of me buying it from lkq as i know whats done to his.

 

So update
Intake from ebay ordered, when you rev the engine what it will rev, the intake expands where the Active manifold tuning valve is, the whole intake swells like its gonna explode so maybe its the intake, dunno at this point.

Get a scanner and get codes. There is a high probability of electrical issues after re- assembly

 

OK. How far did you go to swap the engine? I mean specifically, what parts did you use off your original truck as you stated? Just a wild guess but it sounds like its going into "limp mode" and has something to do with "injector rails" possibly? When it runs, is it rough? Codes are necessary and alot more information needed to even know which haystack to look for the needle.

 

So as of now, i have swapped intake that finally came in, no more swelling intake etc, now we have one code popping up fuel rail pressure sensor a and thats when you hold throttle till it shuts off


Codes where pulled earlier using my snap on zeus ill post them shortly, i have pictures of the codes etc.
