Got a driveshaft disconnect (Superior ) on order but it might not get here before we leave with the motorhome In a couple of weeks. I’m thinking of going ahead and towing the Taco with the engine idling to keep the trans fluid pumping. Anyone here tried this before?

I've replaced transmissions on customers trucks that did this. Remove the drive shaft is the only answer.

The prop speed doesnt match the transmission input and fails.

Yeah transmissions pump off the input shaft and idling isn't enough when the tailshaft is moving. You lose too much in the torque converter when you aren't above the stall speed.

Definitely pop the driveshafts or trailer it.

Thanks for the replies, I hadn’t considered that idling might not provide enough fluid volume for the tail shaft bearing. Sounds like I will have to wait for the disconnect to arrive.
