    We used to have a 2x system - you had to get a pistol purchase permit from the local sheriff and that actually took like a month
    It was a duplicate check of the NICS check since back in 2015 or something, the state of NC started uploading all their data to NICS too
    Our GOP legislature got rid of it 3 years ago - had to over/ride the Dem governor too

    The pistol purchase permit system was actually old Jim Crow
    The sheriff's back then would just deny black folk the permits

    I went and bought a new handgun right after it was repealed cause . . .
