Im new to MN but Im sure there is salt in use during some or much of the winter. Does anyone run there SCS wheels in winter? Do you just buy. heap steelies? And do I actually have to have TPMS sensors in the winter tires or can I run without?

I run mine year round and have been since 2015. Mine have the machined lip and looks like they have a clear coat that’s coming off or the polished part is oxidizing. Rest of the rim is fine

Sorry I meant to put that in there. I’m in Fremont NH. They use a lot of salt up here in New England.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
The key to winters in the rust belt is: KEEP YOUR SHIT WASHED! Find a carwash that has an underside spray and use it at least weekly while there is salt on the roads. I tend to hit the wash twice a week and have never had a problem with rust.

I had SCS Ray10 wheels on my Tacoma when I lived in MN. Personally never had an issue or had the finish start to fail.

I live in MN and have had two Tacomas with rusted out frames. My 2000 was purchased back by Toyota and my 2006 had the frame replaced.

Further I kept them washed frequently after any type of snow event where the DOT spreads salt. Usually using a do-it-yourself car wash facility where I could direct the high pressure spray on the frame and the rest of the undercarriage. Until my 3rd gen, I'd run stock OEM alloys during the winter months with snows.. more for the traction and saftey than protecting the aftermarket wheels. The more frequent you visit a car wash after snow events the better off your wheels and frame will be.

MN, especially the metro, is not kind to vehicles during the winter months with salt and accidents.

The fake bead lock bolts on mine have corroded pretty bad and the finish on the wheels is slowly starting to fail.

I asked if they could hook me up with new bolts since the wheels are only a few years old but they said no. They wanted $$$ for new bolts.

Rims are a little dirty but you can see the rim itself is fine. I have two that have this spot on them. 10 years of New England weather and over 100k on them.
