I went from a ‘14 Taco to a ‘24 Tundy recently and it was a great decision. I’m a member of tundras.com and read all the info I could get my hands on regarding the recall. It really is a lower percentage than its hyped at for those affected. Plenty of folks with ‘22 tundras that are doing just fine. Even all of the ones that post who have had the blown engines are all getting a new engine out of it even though it takes some time.

One of each. Best of both worlds.

I’ve owned 80s to 90s Pickups before they were called a Tacoma, 99 4Runner, 2004 Tacoma, 2011 and 2012 Tacoma, 2006 Tundra, 2016 Tundra, etc. and have driven every generation of every Toyota 4x4 all over the US and world.

The small old Toyotas are great little off road buggies. The new big Tundras are great heavy highway road trip mobiles. The in between generations are just that, in between.

If the Jeep was more off road oriented than you need then get whatever Toyota you want, you’re not going to need more anyway.

That said, the 2016-2017 Tundra era has a better turn radius, cabin size, ground clearance, V8 power, enjoyable Toyota truck all around.

Paid 5k for my 2006 Tundra years ago and only 20k for my 2016 Tundra.

At the end of a 75k+ loan one would have paid pert near $90,000 for that truck. That’s insane unless you have bored with money money.

If I saved $70,000 by going used and get a few less miles per gallon I can drive it until I die and come out ahead haha. Not to mention the other lower costs like insurance, etc.

Everyone should buy what they want. But claiming money is a factor so saving 1-2k a year on a 90k truck is pretty far off.

Between the two I’m much happier with my tundra for hauling the kids and the trailer around, but off-road nothing beats a Tacoma. That said, I would never by a first generation year. If you want a Tacoma I would wait a year or two. Personally I think the third year is a safe bet. Usually at that point the problems have been fixed. My vote is with a family or hauling tundra. For off-roading and no kids Tacoma.

Trailer a locked and stripped 3rd Gen 4Runner to the trail behind your 2017 Tundra for less than a new one :D

Bro can't afford gas, do you think he can afford two trucks?

OP: you can't afford gas, how do you think a new vehicle with a $1500 payment is going to help you out?

Also, I think the $1200 payment you currently have is probably hurting you more than the gas bill. How long until you pay that off?

You need to Dave Ramsey this shit; maybe you should be looking at a Civic or something, and not a $70k truck (that won't get significantly better gas mileage than your current ride).

Seriously, how are people okay signing up for a $1500 payment on a depreciating vehicle? That's as much as a mortgage payment.

Apparently people don’t want cheap vehicles. They want to pour a massive amount of money at ridiculously high APR into a rapidly depreciating asset.

Looks like you also bought your vehicles 10 years apart, maybe these things are related? Haha

You got it. Once the Tacoma was paid off in 2015, I just kept making the same payment to myself. Did that for 8 yrs.

I went with the 90% rule: bought the truck that would do 80-90 % of what I needed: urban hauling of small house garbage and dirt hauling. I bought the SR because I can add just about any other feature I need without the cost. but man I wish I had gotten the 4x4. being bit of a minimalist: the trim levels don't make too much since they put both the 4 banger and 6 banger in the base model and 2wd and 4 with drive in the base model as well. every thing else can be added on later. it comes down to how much weight are you going to tow

Granted I only have 132 miles on my 2025 Tacoma SR, and only 14 HWY miles, the very highest MPG I have seen yet is 14.5 MPG coming in from the next town on the HWY, but there were hills.

I cannoit wait to take a trip out on the interstate to see how it does.
