As much as I like Grand Seikos, this is the reason I haven't bought one. Same reason.

That's a great watch! Citizen makes a solid watch. Watches are very personal, so get the one you like.

It’s also good to have a “guy”. Mine was a Master Craftsman from Munich. It took about the same time to be a Dr. as to be a watchmaker back then.

you haven’t bought a Grand Seiko because you wouldn’t want your $5,000 watch to be confused for a $50 watch?

Cheapening of luxury brands because there’s something much cheaper that looks similar to a luxury product is a thing. Especially if it’s made by the same company. Lexus fought with it for a very long time.

Brand oversaturation, a feeling of a lack of exclusivity, etc., are also a thing.

When dealing with luxury products, which are separate from expensive things, you have to take all of that into consideration.

Just curious... has anyone ordered a Trump Watch, and if so has it actually been received and/or have you been given an expected delivery date yet?

"Looks similar ", however there is a huge difference in quality, components, craftsmanship and design.

Right, but you’re speaking to a watch autist.

Grand Seiko is absolutely a thing in Japan, go fly business class ANA and people do wear them over there.

One of the biggest obstacles that they still have here is that people don’t realize they are a different brand from Seiko. And that becomes very hard when you expect somebody to spend 12 grand for a diver.

Sounds like you’re buying watches to be recognized by others

I think that watch enthusiasts tend to focus less on just looks, and what the watch means to them, rather than price? I think they tend to take the entire watch, movement, innovation, finishing, etc., into consideration when purchasing, rather than just saying "Oooo I like that, GIMMIE !" Somone looking at a Grand Seiko isnt cross shopping a Seiko. If that makes sense?

I don’t, but expecting your average person to spend $10-12,000 on something with unproven brand recognition in the US is a tough sell, go talk to any GS dealer.

It doesn’t help that some of the Chinese jewelry shops that carry both around here have $12,000 watches in a case right next to the $250 divers.

Which is a HORRIBLE reason to buy watches. Buy what you like!

Good rule of thumb for me is it works when there’s a few megawatts of energy in a transformer near by.

Which surprises me, as Grand Seiko is older than Rolex, has much better-looking movements and are more innovative, imho.
