This is as far as you need to go to see the tech doesn't know what he's talking about. He's admitting to over-inflating tires to reduce wear on the outside edges, while also claiming this promotes even wear. Not only is this a bad idea, but what he's doing doesn't even match what he says. (Also why you should always verify your own tire pressure).

The chalk test will give you the optimal pressure for even wear for the exact conditions when you do the test (likely unloaded, driving on a straight, level street), but not necessarily performance.

The load calculation Falken did matches the design load between the two tire sizes (which is driven by, but kind of independent from the vehicle weight). This should be safer and would cover all of your bases. I would also hold the opinion from a tire manufacturer over most other sources, when it comes to tire settings and performance.

Here’s using the original load method (the “Falken” method). Chalk test also is helpful, but as pointed out may not agree with OEM specs.

(The on the same site is useful when considering new tires.)

24 off-road here, door stickers say 30 psi stock for the 265/70/r17s.

I got 285s and my tire shop had them up to 45 psi.

    I deflated down to 30.

I totaled a Honda accord on a wet curvy road because I had just swapped out my summer tires and the winter tires were at 50 psi. They were like ice skates. No traction on the curve and I flew straight into a wall. Overinflated is dangerous.

Very interesting to hear the off-road tire pressure door sticker is actually 30psi also....
Havent drove the truck last few days, need to get her out of the garage & bring her down to 30psi,
That should really improve the ride quality...
Just dreading me setting them to 30 & then the TPS's read something else due to inaccurate tire pressure gauge most likely....

I was taken back when I saw the recommend tire pressure by Toyo is 30 psi for these large tires. My 2 cents - it's strictly for comfort. I generally keep mine higher, at 34psi for load and towing. Keep in mind, the lower the tire pressure the less mpg...

Any time anyone else touches your tires you have to check them. Took mine to the dealer for the 5000mi checkup and they noted on the checklist that spec was 30 psi. Then proceeded to inflate them to 36.
I had 3 different pressure gauges (2 on inflators and one dial gauge) that all read differently so I bought another gauge that was "certified". It matched my existing dial gauge. When I inflate to 30-31 psi the TPS reads 28-29.

Looks like a quality brand so not knocking it by any means...
That being said, my tps display, all 4 tires read right on the money compared to what DT told me they set them at...
meaning accuracy of tps & actual pressure in the tire was on-point, so ide still question the accuracy of your gauge..
Quality brand but still only $20 & reading through the reviews theres plenty of people claiming inaccuracy, even compared to a reference gauge.
Ide question hands down accuracy of that gauge before questioning accuracy of tps's..

A couple of days after I got my TRD Sport and was playing with the dashboard gauge settings, I noticed the tire pressure monitor was reading 38psi for three of the tires and 39psi for the fourth. My tire pressure gauge confirmed the readings the truck reported. Seems my experience mirrors the others' whose tires came way overinflated. Being that high made me concerned that the pressure on the highway on a hot day could exceed the maximum pressure the tire is rated for.

I set them all to 32 like the sticker says. My immediate observation was that it rode much better. Even my wife, who usually isn't tuned into such things, said something the next time she drove it.

Good time to note, make sure everyone is adjusting / setting tire pressure when the tires are cold (i.e. the vehicle hasn't been driven in at least 3 hours). Best time is first thing in the morning before you go anywhere.

The pressure ratings take heat gain into consideration, max pressure on the tire is meant as max cold pressure (usually stated as such).

Even if that wasn’t the case, a 45 psi max tire doesn’t pop at 46 psi. It just means 45 is where it stops gaining speed or load capacity. It doesn’t mean the tire is about to bust if it goes over X psi listed on the sidewall.

I want to say someone did a chalk test on here or the 4g forum and came out to around 30 PSI, I just run 32 in the front and 30 in the back

The issue i have with the specified 30psi is that now its getting cold, my low tire indicator lamp comes on in the morning when ambient temp drops below 30F. I found out the tpm system alarm is 28psi. So i run mine at 32psi at about 40F. Temp sure does have an effect on tire pressure.

Tire pressure is related to tire size and weight of the vehicle. It's pretty simple really. Just consult a chart and go with the tire pressure for your specific tire size and the actual weight of your vehicle.
Here's one if you can't find your own: Application of Load Inflation Tables Version 2020-7

There is no magic psi for all tires. Proper psi is related to tire size and weight of vehicle.

Oh yeah, that door sticker is only for the actual tire size listed and the vehicles GVWR. It's for people who can't look at a chart and determine the correct psi for their application.

Low pressure light should not come on until the pressure drops by 25% or more. Adjust your pressure to what you want and reset the TPWS setting pressure.

I also noticed the large pressure swing with the cold mornings, and had the TPS indicator on a few times...

I was at Costco yesterday and noticed there was a tire inflation station at the service bays, and the air hoses were green. The green hoses caught my attention and sure enough, it is a nitrogen fill station - free to use for Costco members.

I always thought nitrogen fills were a joke, but now I might air down and refill with nitro. I am curious to see if it really makes that big of a difference. Hey, it is free... :)

Just put sport wheels and tires on my SR5. I assume I need to drop the pressure down to what the sport runs, correct?
