I've heard the soldering from the factory isn't great in these. I hope this one holds up!

As odd as it may sound, you might try tightening it a bit. Even back and forth between tighten and loosen. Sometimes this helps break up whatever junk is keeping it from coming out.

Assuming there's roughly a 24H grace period for "today" - finally under the, uhh, knife.

Rack removal is positively kicking my ass. Was expecting it to be a pain, but glad I didn't defer until a couple days before the core return deadline! Maybe that drip a day leak and faint clunk weren't so bad afterall, haha. Thought CV removal would help with access but that ****er's stuck, except now the dust shield is mangled from various attempts, this is the worst one I've ever had to fight with.

Ultimately I'm just glad I was already going to be doing a lot of the collateral work. Might almost be worth popping the motor if I had the right stuff to do so..photo taken after cleaning up for the night, floor was a mess, hah!

Rebuilt the CV’s, replaced the front diff fluid and did the Lexus fill/drain plug mod. No more hex bolts!

Do you have the part numbers for the Lexus plugs. Yeah I know, they are all over this forum.

Well done! You need a beer or more.
I had to replace my steering rack, but saw how others did theirs and it looked like a nightmare.

Took it to a buddy’s shop instead.
They also had lots of issues, steering shat was seized, AC compressor had to be disconnected for access, High Pressure Return line snapped spilled hydraulic fluid everywhere. It was not a fun day for them.

3 years back I got quoted 3500 for the truck with their tier 3 paint. And that was just for them to sand and repaint. No other repairs. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more now. I’m in California so prices may be different .
What I do see a lot of people is that they do the repair and/or prep work themselves and bring it to Maaco.

I’m not brave enough to do all that myself …lol plus I just don’t have the time.
