IMG_5929.jpg IMG_5921.jpg Just rolled my 98 Tacoma while driving over a patch of ice, it’s pretty dinged up and both doors don’t close quite right, the top of the cab is also quite damaged. It breaks my heart I only had 147k miles on it and insurance wants to total it. I don’t really want to because it was my Dads and my favorite vehicle ever. But I’m also not in a very good financial spot just being out of college and need some advice. Just let go? Should I get the basics fixed and hold onto it?

Thats a sad situation sir. If its driveable then I say keep it. It'll have some cool battle scars. I think in some situations you can take the insurance payout and then buy it back from the junkyard or whatever. I've never done it or anything but I think its possible.

You were doing donuts in the parking lot weren't you? I knew someone who took their old bronco down to the riverbed in high school. They rolled it and their dad made them walk all the way home.

    i would keep
    However
Our tacos fetch incredible salvage value
One reason so easy to total in the ins company’s view

so just pulling these #s out for an example
    Truck worth $10k
The rolled/wrecked run and drive truck will get 50% salvage value (easily IMO)

so if u let insurance retain salvage, you get $10k plus tax
If u owner retain salvage, you get $5k (no tax). And keep the truck

shit the insurance company WANTS the salvage value to get back half of their payout.

only can retain salvage if you have title in hand
Adj for 25yrs…..these are TX state rules

    Drop full coverage
    Put new windshield in
    Get an alignment
    Drive her with battle scars

Just bc it’s pertinent to salvage value and the money made by ins companies…..

I alone paid approximately $200,000 for ttl loss flood vehicles (one was a $50k Z06 vette)

that year, for TX business group, was one of the most profitable years by my company.
    Freakin crazy
