Woke up from a dead-nap and realized I had to run to Costco
to pick up some pet meds - grabbed a dog and a drink for $1.50
before heading back to the truck.

Saw this dude and his wife struggling with a 65-inch LG TV upon the
roof of their ford-focus, trying to tie it down.... I'm like damn. Yapped
with the guy as I have recently bought the 55-inch LG OLED TV and
he was sweating bullets over his predicament... asked how far he was
going... just over the bridge and a mile or so more....

Well heck I was too - so I whipped the truck around dropped the gate and
we slid that 65 inch onto the persian rug and off we went with the wife
    following in their car.

Dude was happy as a clam and I was glad to help didn't go out of my way
and got him home safe and sound with that honkin 65-inch.

By the way - if any of you cats are in the market for a new TV - spend a few
dollars more and go OLED - it's like wow.

i know the feeling of that dude - I was sweating a bit with my 77” OLED standing vertical in the back of the truck as I drove. I actually sat back there and had my brother drive. Good of you to help, ain’t no way one of those is going home on the roof of a focus.

And…agreed on the OLED. I had a 55” and now a 77” in addition. I will never buy anything else…until MicroLED finally comes out and bests all of them. Not interested in LCD/LED/MiniLED at all.

Laid-flat is bad for TVs ... they flex and crack. Says so on the box.

That’s why I stood mine up. But I didn’t like doing so.

I will say I didn’t know any of that when I bought my first one in 2019, and laid down in my Ranger for about 10 miles as a result of not knowing better. That tv is still kicking with 12K hours. So it’s not as big of a deal as people say, I don’t think. But I’ll stand them these days since they say to. And I’ll still feel nervous about it.

Good on you for lending a hand.
I try to help people when I can -- sometimes it doesn't work out so well:

I'm coming out of Wally World one day and see an older gentleman struggling to put his purchases in his vehicle.
I step up and say "need a hand sir?"
He barks back "NO, I've got it!"

I was somewhat surprised by the harsh response -- until I noticed -- the gentleman was missing his left hand...:frusty:

    I slunk away...

If you couldn't lay them flat, I'd have never made it home with one to turn on..

is it still as good of a deed when you tell the world to look at you for doing it?

i do Amazon returns through kohls. not because i care about kohls, but because they give a 20% off coupon. then i hand it off to someone random in the store making a purchase. not initially my idea, a friend of a friend told me she always did it, and amde mbe feel guilty for always tossing it before. and i see it as a bit of a jab at corporate america, but that's probably closer to politics than it ought to be.

It potentially could be but it really depends on the weight and todays consumer grade TVs are pretty light, even the bigger ones.
Packed in the box with the Styrofoam the weight is distributed pretty evenly.
I work with some fairly heavy and often fragile low bezel commercial grade TVs 55"-75" and we lay them on their backs prior to mounting as we often have to place them anywhere from 10'-25' up on a wall.
Lying them down doesn't hurt them but putting too much pressure on that bezel will put a line through that screen and replacement is around $5K.

I read up on all the new-fangled smart TV technology and couldn't make up my mind.
Slipped into a small shop and the owner gave me the low-down on all of it -

Glad I went with OLED as well - it's hands down the best look out there, costs a bit more but I'm not taking it with me 'eh ?

Good point. I often do good deeds and people mistake it for me being a nice person.

I give away coupons too.... local grocery store receipt prints out $5.00 coupons for +$50 in purchases.
I never buy that much food so I collect them and give them to folks in line who will exceed $50.

Truth is I'm a P.O.S. and I do things to make myself feel better about who I really am LOL...
If everybody in the world did 1 small thing to make someone else's life better it would add up fast.
The me-me-me attitude doesn't add up to much does it?
