My goal is to remove the 3" body lift from a '97 SR5 Tacoma and bring it back to original height. I've searched for parts some but don't know the correct terminology to search for the correct parts, and I don't know the original gap size between the chassis and body/bed. I found a 1" lift kit. Is there a kit that can be ordered to return to OEM height.

Find someone doing a lift to a truck with original suspension parts? Buy the old parts off them.

Gosh, do you think anyone is doing body lifts on a 1st Gen Taco these days. I'd like to get me work accomplished this decade.

You could take your VIN to the dealership and have them look up part numbers for the cab and bed mounts. Maybe look for cab and body bushings.

Try your luck on parts.toyota.com or talk to the parts department at a Toyota dealer.

You'll probably have more luck in the 1st gen forum than in the suspension forum: https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/1st-gen-tacomas-1995-2004.4/

I doubt you'll find a complete "body lift delete" kit anywhere. If I were in your shoes, I'd study the instructions for as many body lift kits as I can find. They're probably all essentially the same parts but some will have better instructions than others. The instructions will tell you what original parts were removed, and help you identify what parts were installed as part of the lift. Removal is the reverse of installation.

A quick look at the instructions for the Daystar 1" kit makes me think you'll just need bolts and body mount bushings. Bolts from a junkyard truck would be ideal if you can find a good donor--you'll get OE parts for cheap and you'll get practice taking them out. Body mount bushings are a wear item and worth buying new. I'd stick with OE if they're still available. Likely spendy, but aftermarket rubber rarely holds up as well as OE.

I removed a 3" body lift from a 1st gen that I had awhile back. Bought a new body mount bushing kit and new boldy mount bolts. Had a couple friends come over and took it out. Had to remove the steering shaft spacer as well. Pretty easy job, for the mechanically inclined.
