I am not able to get accurate reading, its always reading over the top mark. I did 5 times and after waiting 20 minutes, then it read just by the top mark not over.

Does this look like overfill? I am confident that I put 5 quartz together in filter & in engine.

Then I topped it 1 quartz and bit more, since capacity is 6.2 Q.

I am confused if its overfill a little or just dipstick keeps grabbing some from the tube.

Since it’s not possible to fully drain all the oil out… if you put the full capacity back into it, you’ll be over

I put 6 in every time. I barely look at the dipstick anymore... probably not the best practice, but i always empty my oil drain pan back into the empty jugs so i know i put it all in.

Try wiping the dipstick and shove it back in. Wait 20 minutes and pull the dipstick out and do NOT wipe it. It should be easy to read the level.

In 9 years of changing my oil, 6 quarts always gets me to around the top dot on the dipstick.

This dipstick design is an absolute fucking nightmare. The best way of checking and you only get 1 shot … get the truck warm… park on level surface …. Wait 5 min and pull the stick once. That’s the only way to get a reading the rest will be smear city all over the stick

what's the hazard to being slightly overfilled?

this isn't a high performance engine.

    the pistons aren't horizontally opposed.

    it's not dry sump.

the oil pan sits lower than the crank by a good bit.

    what hazard exists here?

Hazard is the bubbling that overfill can cause. I am just trying to understand if I overfilled it or not, I put the 6.1/6.2 from what manual said. I am confused how can dipstick be showing that up high. I left the oil draining full hour, wonder how much could have been left inside.

I just cant tell if its rubbing on tube way out, or its overfilled, very annouying

now run the motor for 1 minute, shut it down, and immediately check it. it'll likely be under-filled then.

there's a lot of oil that goes to the top of the motor. a little extra on cold start will not cause bubbling.

A little overfill won’t matter. I always add a few ounces of Motorkote additive after an oil change…have done so since buying truck. Always add on top of supposedly full. No need to read the dipstick unless you have a leak or are burning through oil.

Try scuffing the wetted area of the dipstick with some medium sand paper, you don't need to go crazy, just dull down the smooth finish. Only sand across the stick, it helps - a little.

I miss the European style dipsticks that have hash marks on them.

I happen to notice the older men get the weirder their humor gets. I can't tell its because of wisdom or simply not giving fk since they are old. I guess ill have to wait and see it myself when i hit 60

Im 45 and my humor gets weirder daily.

My dealer always overfills / seems like by about half a quart - I don’t know enough about engines to know if that’ll froth and it’s very frustrating. I’m going to start changing my own oil.
