Honestly I think staying limited to one platform is just that…limiting.

I’ve been saying it for a long as I’ve been on this thread, no one brand makes all of the best everything.

Metabo HPT is cool. I wouldn’t give up my Dewalt miter saw for a metabo one, but I’ve had good luck with a few of their tools. One being the rear handle saw. It’s lighter than my favorite Dewalt 60v rear handle saw that had every bit or more power the OG skillsaws had. That lightness is nice but still has pretty good power on the 36v batteries. I’d imagine it’s a nice feature for someone wanting to save their arm.

Same with the 36v router. Plenty of power. Simple. I think a lot of those tools have lifetime warranties?

They are supposed to be better than the High Output batteries and smaller.

I'm waiting for existing batteries to die before I make the switch. Haven't decided which tool(s) will get the Forges. I'll replace as I need to replenish.

Wonder if they'll do something similar with the M12 lineup.

The new M12 high output 2.5 and 5.0 Ah are pretty nice in comparison to the 3.0,4.0 and 6.0Ah batteries from my experience.

Not much, just floorpads and mud guards.
I've always had good luck with Milwaukee tools.

that graph really only confuses things.

my understanding from the initial forge release stuff was that the 8.0 forge was equal to the 12.0 high output. but the first graph indicates the 8.0 is lesser, and there's zero benefit to the higher cost forge 12.0 over the older and far cheaper high output 12.0. not only that, but the 6.0 forge and 6.0 high output are equals as well, which makes the cost jump of the forge impossible to justify.

but then the next graph puts the forge 6.0 and 8.0 on the same level as the high output 12.0, with the forge 12.0 being an entirely different level?

i'm leaving far more confused than i entered...

The amp hour doesn’t change. Amp hours are amp hours.

Its ability to operate closer to 20v for longer in tools that have motors that can make that draw is the only difference. The bigger amp hour battery’s can resist voltage sag thus giving that tool more volts for longer, thus “more power.”

So the best tools to use bigger forge batteries in are tools that have higher draws. 7 inch grinders, chainsaws, deep bandsaw, mud mixer drill, stuff like that.
