I just installed the AX6000 from Trail grid Pro. Very easy head unit install, it took about 45 minutes. Since the video looked so easy, I opted to put the mic in the overhead console. When I pulled my overhead console down there was already something in the slot they said to use..4 wires. Anyone experience this?

I installed this in my 2017. I guess I don’t remember there being anything in the way. If there was, I must have moved out of the way. New microphone works fine as installed. You could call Trail Grid Pro and ask them about this.

I sent them an email, they are pretty quick to reply. Pretty sure it is the OEM mic, just nervous about unhooking all 4 wires. I may just move it out of the way hooked up and then install the Sony mic.

Just disconnect/move out of the way, put new one in, test it, and move forward. I do remember that you will need to set the microphone level in the Sony head settings for a large cab area. I did this to make sure my voice was loud enough, and nobody has complained. I’ve been using this head unit now for over a year and it’s worked great with CarPlay. I only have the one back up camera, so this was a perfect match for my set up. I also ordered a screen protector that sticks on off the Internet installed it to prevent scratches, works well. I’m glad I went with a smaller head unit as it looks more factory.

Pretty much did that and everything seems to work fine, but during Sony mic install I saw all the room above the overhead console, so I reconnected the Toyota mic and just taped it on top. Just in case those 4 wires go to something other than a mic feed.

Not sure about Sony, my Pioneer mike was easy to just Velcro to my steering column. I didn't have a factory mike though.
