The wife popped her first coyote right at dark. He was screaming when he hit the ground (me and my daughter were about 400 yards away) and she put another round down range. I could hear him crawling off in the thick stuff but never could see eyes. I'm gonna say he doesn't make it much longer.

Ive been off line. taking care of my dad at nursing home along with my issues.only hunted 7 hours the whole season well,my 1st full day to hunt with my son today , we went out , let a smallish 8pt go this morning. heading for my afternoon spot and saw a doe acting weird in the green field. pulled off and watched her. buck came out of the brush and mounted her. never seen that in 60yrs. she walked up 10 ft and he mounted her again. traded the bino’s for the ‘06. 175+ yds off hand and double lunged him. He Came and Went at the same time. far from my best buck but i was tickled. IMG_4631.jpg

Mine have been taken in clearcuts or alpine meadows. I’m zeroed in at 300 yards. Which is pretty much zero between a chain or two for mine. So 5 - 425yrds is just right.
I spend much time cleaning and drying both my rifle and muzzleloader (depending on which I go out for) making that easier is what I’d advocate for in our wet environment. Good luck.

Thank you gentlemen. I love the hunting posts on here. Especially when they have a bit of the hunt story to go with it. It holds me over until I can get back in the woods.

This past Saturday I took my younger brother hunting. He’s only hunted a few times and has only harvested a doe. He worked his butt off helping me get my camp right after the hurricanes.
I got him set up with a rifle, binoculars, etc. He downloaded a hunting license on the drive up. I took him to a blind with a feeder 120 yards out. I made sure he knew the regulations and told him good luck.
I’m in my tree stand at first light when I get a text. “ I see a buck”. Cool. I’m hunting as well and am hoping to see one too lol. I check the camera where he’s at.
    IMG_8852.png
I text him back, it’s just a four point, leave him be. A few minutes go by, he texts me again. “He looks bigger than a four”. So I check the camera again.
    IMG_8853.png
Legal light is one minute out. I held my text for 60 long seconds lol. Shoot it!!!
I heard the shot echo out. He texts me back, “It didn’t go down when I shot it”. No worries, we’ll look for it in a few hours. Reload and sit back and enjoy.
9ish I got down from my stand and helped him look for his deer.
    IMG_8802.jpg
My brother’s first buck. It piled up 50 yards from where it stood.

Appreciate the feedback! I’ve hunted with a Remington 700 .270 in the Midwest for years. I wasn’t sure if I needed something designed for a little closer in for Western Washington. Sounds like I need something that’ll knock them down up close and at a distance.
