Any woodworkers?

Cleaned the semi-truck flooring, cut it to size and sealing it tonight. Ideally kitchen shelfs can go up tomorrow night!

 

I recieved an order from Klingspor the other day so I changed the paper on the sanding mop.

Then I changed the paper on the drum sander to 150 grit. I'm getting pretty good at changing the grits on the drum sander, I can do it in just a few minutes now and I dont dread the task.

Ready to sand.

Then I finished cutting out the crosses on the scroll saw, 86 in this batch.

Then I set them up to run through the drum sander. This is an experiment to see if it saves me time sanding, It will.

I run 4 or 5 thru at a time very slow and a very light cut.

Then it was on to the spindle sander to remove any blade marks or burns from the scroll saw.

Only 60 more to go, lol. I had to quit, my back just can't take standing for long periods of time anymore. Getting old sucks!

After the spindle sanding is done I'll move on to the sanding mop to soften and round the edges. I hope to have the sanding done this week and then they'll be ready for finishing with blo.

Went to Lowes for some furniture sliders after dropping Tessa at her grooming appointment.

Made a bench for the upstairs loft/bedroom. Another chunk of Eucalyptus. We used to use the black chair, but I think I’m going to donate it to a very good friend/teacher. She’s supreme cool stuff. Thinking of a fishing pole rack too for the Taco. The legs made me think of it. Good stuff.

 

So, it's been a busy and productive week. Who would have thought the first week of retirement would be this much.....FUN!

Sunday was the first official day. Tuesday was the new saw. Wednesday was cleaning and organizing the "shop". Today as part of that the planer was mounted on a rolling tool chest for a better working height and opening some floor space.

Then part of the desk frame with the computer and power shelf was cut and checked with a dry fit. After a little chisel work, it looks good. Tomorrow is fitting the bottom piece to keep it squared and then sanding. Walnut and sapeli. That should go quick.

 

Got some time in the shop to finish sanding the first batch of 50 crosses.

Cut out some ornaments this morning on the scroll saw before the Texas game.





Anyone out there have any experience with this Jet jointer? 8” helical head and 72” table. It is on a pretty decent sale, $500 off or $2k + free shipping, right now and very tempting. I am looking to replace my 8” Rikon bench top.

 

Looks almost identical to my Grizzly 8" and it has been a great machine. I really like the long beds.

The excitement and anticipation build. This is the workshop for me. No cars (or trucks) allowed!

16'x31', 19' wide at the back. Production and milling at the front, finishing at the rear. A mini-split going in after we get occupancy to keep the heated square feet down on the assessment. And a sink for cleaning brushes and such. Also considering a small room for pool filter and pump. 50/50 on that vs leaving it outside and building a small enclosure to reduce the noise, if needed.




Desk update. Used the joiner to lightly plane off the pencil marks on the frame. Everything on the box frame is sanded with 40 & 80 grit. I'm going to do a single post on the other side of the desk. I have a couple of whiskey staves I'm going to attach the walnut post to. At the desk I'll probably do a couple of 45* support pieces for stability and strength. I also have to mount some anchor boards on the bottom side as I think the desk is too thin to risk that. Time to go sand some more...

 

First batch of 50 crosses are ready to go so I boxed them up.

Now it's time for so.ething different to work on. One of the fellas in church retired from the post office and they gave him his p.o. box door. He asked me to make a box for it out of some dark wood. So I selected some walnut drops.

Jointed 3 sides and marked it for re sawing.

The trusty old delta sawdust producer work just fine.

I'm thinking about finger box joints for this project. I gotta whip up a jig.

 

I’m looking into a scroll saw purchase. I want one like the Dewalt 788 with the arm that lifts up. The only other one I know that has this feature is the Bauer from harbor freight. Anyone know of another brand that has this feature for under $500? (Dewalt is on sale right now for $399.)

 

I’m not sure of any others brands but I do have the Dewalt scroll saw and it’s been a really good saw, I think it’s a great value for a mid priced machine

 

I also have the DeWalt Scroll Saw. I actually got it for free when my brother in law’s step dad died. The stand is also very nice. It is light weight, so I just push it in the corner when I am not using it. It has worked great for what I use it for. My father in law has an Excalibur and it is sweet, but I don’t think they make them anymore.




I also like to use the Flying Dutchman Spiral Blades. Cutting in all directions is a pretty cool feature.


I waited to long on that Jet jointer and it is now sold out. Shopping around and Grizzly has the G0858 on sale for $500 off, but they will not deliver it with lift gate service. So right now the Grizzly G0490x looks like the ticket. 8”, 3Hp, 72” beds, parallelogram adjustment, and available lift gate delivery service. Only downside is a spiral head instead of helical.
