No worries man, I'm just curious.

I just remember seeing a DIY kit a while back that had a single 3/4" mounting tab that protruded thru the bumper as the shackle mount. Ever since then I'm like that's how they should all be built, lol.

No argument from me. There must be a reason he builds them this way, but it does seem smart to carry it through the bumper in a single piece. Seems there was a guy I follow on instagram (overlandunderbudget) who built a bumper as you describe.

I'd imagine it's because it's expensive. You'd probably spend as much just on the 3/4" plate as you would the rest of the bumper material.

I've heard of that guy. I've seen several of his YT videos. I don't remember that one, I'll have to look it up.

I know, old thread but evolving subject. Nguyen Works makes a first gen bumper now as well.

@Kwikvette Can you show a progress photo of the bumper you are working on?

Sure, although it more often just sits cause I've only had the truck at my house for a good 2-3 hours to get all my measurements and test fitting (friend lives 40+mins from me and we're both busy)

Won't see the truck for another 2-3 weeks but when I do, I'll be test fitting some "wings".

Specifically the passenger side as I'm going to use the TMR swingout so I need to really get close but not block the tail light. Unlike other swingout options, I'm not liking how oversized the whole setup is on the TMR.

It'll get a fold down table, but would be nice to add a propane tank holder too if needed.

Looking good. Bummer on not having a truck at you house for fitting. Looks like you got the jbrandt tow hook alignment with frame rails going on. Any bedside trimming proposed for the wings? Thanks for the preview.

    Thanks!

We're just too busy; he's off weekends mostly but that's when my wife, kid, and I do stuff anyway.

Wings won't wrap around, they'll stop kind of like the 4XInnovations on post #25.

His goal was something with a better departure angle than stock, incorporating those Baja Squadron lights, recovery points, a swingout, foldout table, and all in a small setup while being plated.

IMG_4995.jpg IMG_4999.jpg I bought a 4Xinnovations rear bumper based on the information I learned from this thread and it arrived today. I’m still on the fence about painting it myself with the VHT roll-bar paint, or sending it out for a black textured powder coating to match my front ARB bumper. Finances will probably dictate that section. The bumper did not come with any provisions for a license plate light. I know in NJ you will get a ticket for that. Have others drilled their own holes, or come up with something more creative? The bumper is so nice that I’m concerned my hole-drilling won’t be symmetrical.

You can buy and wire up your own lights that are often sold for trailers.

Here's when I wired mine up to a license plate light-bracket.

Ok. Cool. I like that idea better than drilling holes.

Hi guys, I'm looking into ordering the 4xInnovations rear plate bumper for my 1999 tacoma. I am definitely planning to tow a trailer with my truck. Just curious if anyone with the 4xinnovations rear plate bumper has done any towing with it? The bumper looks super heavy duty, I'm just wondering if I should go with a regular tow hitch receiver or go with this bumper for towing specifically. What are your guys thoughts?

I'm not a fan of how the installation basically relies on pinching the frame (albeit with beefy bolts) to prevent movement. I've been wanting to put a few weld beads around the outside for this reason. I know for a fact if I get rear-ended the bumper is going to move, likely into the bottom of my tailgate. If I was planning on towing a lot, I would expedite the welds
