Deer hunting BS thread

Tell the wife congrats, and remember "Meat is Meat" when it comes to stocking the freezer.

 

Never hunted one but did time in an original baker when they were the norm.

Watched some of those tree lounger videos back in the day. Believe the fellas wife’s name was Margret and dam if she didn’t shoot a lot of nice deer.

 

Haven't had a buck show up on the cameras in a week and a half.
This one showed up last night.
Never seen him before.

 

No deer = no hunt
Not sure what’s going on around here . Most hunters not seeing deer

 

This has been a weird year rough rut

 

Its the same where I hunt, never seen it this slow.

 

Same for us at the house. The last 5-6 sits we've seen one button head and his mom. She was running when I saw her and running when I last saw her.

 

Maybe CHEMTRAILS affecting deer

 

On a serious note : very dry weather is really all we have in common I think
It is raining right now though

 

The small mountain ( hill ) that I hunt has been disturbed by 2 subdivisions going in . Lots of woods gone on other side of the hill . A couple years before that a guy cut a road and cleared a bunch of land further down the other side of the hill and it was really thick great deer cover . Very high stem count and now gone . I’m hoping at some point the deer will eventually get used to it . That still doesn’t explain why hunters in other areas are not seeing deer !

Everything left of the red line is already residential. The whole chunk between Rt7 ,Birch Hill Rd ,Lakeview Rd is not quite 2 miles squared with an elevation of just over 1000 ‘
Columbia county NY is the highest rated for real estate sales due to it being only 2 hours from New York City . Citiots are pushing us out

It will HAVE TO BE a better season next year . No acorns behind my house either yet across the road there are
Gypsy moths killed lots of trees and now that spotted lantern fly thing on top of that annd Emerald Ash borer killing ash trees . It’s an invasion .
Nice warm dry weather for ticks too , pulled about 25-30 off the dog after a walk the other day

 

Slow around here, as well.
The signs are everywhere but still nothing.
The bit of snow we got yesterday froze and made the ground crunchy.
Now I can hear and see better.

Question. I’m looking into getting a new deer rifle. Not in a hurry just before next season. I have been deer hunting with a Remington model 700 6mm since I was 11 years old and love the gun. Now 38 years old. Ammo is getting harder and harder to find. My question is what caliber out of 308, 270, 7mm-08, and 6.5 creedmor do you guys think would be best. Usually not shooting over 100 to 150 yards.

 

243, 270, 30-06, 308. All these are deer killers

 

.308 & 6.5 cm would be one of my 1st choices, .270 3rd choice (personal preference). Ammo for any of those 3 are easily obtained.
