I mount mine just to the right of the steering wheel. Easily accessible to zoom in and out in Gaia. Mounting low helps with keeping it from blocking too much of the view.

This is exactly how I use mine. Not needed for everyday driving. I find I end up positioning it on wheeling trips to allow me to take portrait photos/videos. That works well with the GoPro I have up by the mirror the does wide angle horizontal video.

Taco Garage has a Dash Multi Mount set-up for the 2nd gen. You will need the 17mm ball adapter to attach your phone mount to the Ram arm. If you want the phone mount that TG sells, I'll give you mine. I had to buy another mount that would work with my phone. Didn't have enough adjustment. My phone stays put with the DMM with an Andobil phone mount. (Mmmm....It won't let me post the link. I'm tech retarded, you know?) The Andobil says it is "bumpy friendly" and it has worked for me so far. You will need to buy the double socket arms (Ram mounts) separately. "B" size balls are 1". C's are 1.5" The Taco Garage adapter is for a 1" ball. The 1" balls are standard on the DMM. It holds my hand held radio just fine, too. https://rammount.com/collections/popular-components-b-size

I was going to post that, but it's listed as out of stock and I wondered if they will make more since they probably don't see a big market in 2nd gens anymore. Might be worth reaching out. I love mine. I have my phone, GoPro and radio hanging on mine.

Funny story... I can build a flatbed, but the thought of drilling three holes in the dash gives me pause.

If I did it, so can you. You have more skills than I. Your drill wants to come out and play.

What I like to do for holes like that is wrap a pc of electrical tape on the bit, for the depth you want.
Then you know to drill down as far as the tape.

He knows that if he starts drilling holes in the dash, he will soon be having a custom dash made... Just saying.

The way I figured it: If for some reason I didn't like it and took it off, the holes would be in a place you wouldn't really see. I also eventually came to the point that I ain't selling this truck so, fuck it.

I am amazed. Truly awed even at how far we reach people from this humble page on TW. I seldom go anywhere else and explore the site. If I need to know something I will go poke around. Sometimes I look through the 2nd Gen page and even the for sale page. Mostly I look here. Yesterday I saw something about flatbeds and got drug into a whole world of people who seemed to know my truck and finally had access to ask questions. I had no idea. All over the place and genuine construction/design questions. Problem areas etc. Huh!

Perhaps you could monetize that knowledge base!

As a way to fund future mods of course.

Agreed. The mods I do will be my kids (or grand kids) problem. The 5 yr old grand son wants my 4Runner.
