hello, i just searched a bit

backstory - i did the breather mod to tailight on my 2004 4runner because we do run deep water on our trails in MA (freetown forest)
fast forward to my 2015 trd offroad tacoma i just got with 89k miles
i thought to do it again, but i almost didnt because i read that extending can cause condensation in line that settle right on top of breather, basically dont go chasing problems for nothing this time around

i also heard my rear locker has a breather of its own, or the tcase?

anyone point me to a thread about the T fitting i saw mentioned (it got convoluted)
or whats going on with a rear locker breather on my new truck
because i am considering doing this mod again afterall

    thanks

nevermind i just found out the elocker breather is actually route pretty high already, in or above frame rail/above gastank so i am bailing on that idea, might just do my diff again, although the condensation settling on the breather in the tube is slightly concerning

Interesting as I put rear breather tubes on both of my trucks. Hopefully, any condensation in there evaporates with a sheltered screened vent end rather than using a check valve type end, like what sits atop the stock dif. I teed in my FJ locker breather tube but my 3rd Gen Taco is diff breather only.

thats interesting - and i hope so too, good idea, maybe ill run one of those and get a two-pack and same for secondary air pump, my old 4runner i did the oem nipple valve or w.e. it is. also maybe just hi above frame (except splashing...) instead of taillight with those mini filter breathers because condensation favors enclosures
someone said the oem style breather has to be vertical to work properly i heard too in case anyone is curious

i live in place with humidity, freezing, same day, etc.
    and very wet trails lol

ALSO replacing breather nipple with a straight union, any condensation people have reported has a direct entry into the differential, as opposed to have to be sucked in the stock location, i think

Most people only do the rear diff, the common routing locations seem to be behind the tail light, next to the gas cap, and in one of the little cubbies in the side of the bed. The front diff breather is routed next to the engine from the factory and the transmission and transfer case are nearly impossible to access without dropping the transmission.

This is exactly what I did on mine. Did it years ago, no issues since.

Front diff and front ADD are already routed into the engine bay up high from the factory. For peace of mind you should check all the rubber hoses are still intact and connected (there is an intermediate hard line with rubber on either side).

The trans and tcase actuator are both routed up above the trans. Not many people extend those

thanks! i saw the locker 1/8 line is routed pretty high already, i might leave well enough alone there
SCOPE THIS ENGINE BAY 89k miles, i might even see the two breathers here, thanks for your input again
