2nd day of WV rifle season completed with no luck. Passed up some small bucks. Time to start meat hunting tomorrow.

Well I picked the wrong stand again, but at least we have deer on the property. 2 does and a yearling were on a camera 30 yards from the stand I sat in this weekend from 4:25 will dark, and a little buck came through on another camera an hour ago and there is a doe on that field now, must be just out of range of the sensor, I just went to check live feed and there she was... I saw a skunk in the stand this evening

 

I shoot a Tikka T3 .300 Win Mag, I’ve shot a ton of deer and elk with it. In my opinion the best multi game caliber, packs a punch ammo is available and the Tikka is very light and accurate.

 

My son chose the Tikka 7mm-08. It’s a nice gun but ammo got scarce and is just now finding its way back on the shelf in our area. Even then it’s limited weight offering. I will be reloading for it for the foreseeable future. 6.5, 270, or 308 ammo is plentiful 308 always has plenty of choices. That being said every caliber mentioned is more than capable at 100-150 yards. At that range I will always opt for my 30/30. But that wasn’t one of your options. My other son shoots a 243. Ammo is readily available for that as well. But again not one your listed options. I personally like 30 cals especially if I’m hunting in any brush. But just my two cents

Yep. A good bullet placed in the correct spot trumps head stamp any day.

Excluding brown bear, I could happily live with a 7-08 for all my hunting, but what fun is there in only one gun.

 

You got that right. I've had a few people ask my why I still hunt with my .243, and my answer has usually been "because I haven't had one run more than 20 yds yet with it." Now obviously, you can make a perfect shot and they still run 300 yds bc they're just tough animals. But my point remains, my rifle is accurate, I'm comfortable shooting it, and it hasn't let me down once yet; and if it ever does, it'll be because I made a bad shot, not the rifle's/caliber's fault.

That being said, it not letting me down isn't enough of a reason to not buy more . I still want to get a 308 in an AR-10 flavor to replace it, and give it to my daughter for her first deer rifle.

AGREED! If that guy on the video in post 19887 had moved around to the right a little and hit it a few feet lower, he’d have left a much shorter stump and not hung it up!

 

Today I finally received my Nebraska buck mount from last year...far right.

 

That's a dam nice buck. I hope every time you look at him hanging on the wall, it brings a big smile to your face
