hello, anyone have a guess where this wire should be connected? couldn't find a good wiring diagram or see an obvious place to bolt it too. near battery/fuse box on an '06 v6. seems like it could reach block, body or fuse box. thanks for any insight53428406-B18E-44E4-8E84-92FD03745242.jpg

More wider angle pics showing where you're at under the hood, and what the other end is connected to could help. Looks like a ground. There are a couple that hook to the body, but i don't recall that much of a bend on those, and i thought they had a lil hook thing to help line them up, too.

SCRATCH ALL THAT, I THINK THOSE ARE BLACK< NOT WHITE!

thanks for reply. color definitely threw me off. i noticed it sitting there when i was changing oil. doesn't seem to be arcing where it was touching wheel well. gonna check to see if it has voltage, guessing not. 101DA6DC-3AB6-4ACE-9074-540D4EC43A2B.jpg

I'd assume it's a ground for some aftermarket component.
And the crimp looks similar to the wire hooked to battery positive.

I'm 99% sure that wire feeds power to inside the fuse/relay box, open the cover, you'll see a stud and nut.

that wire was actually my first thought but it was in tact. i tend to keep eye on that wire into box as it was problem in old 22re's i had too. i forgot to mention truck starts easy and runs mostly good. has occasional hesitation under load that i'm hoping is related. and just to be difficult, nothing aftermarket on this truck :)

before i just ground it to body is there a way to tell if it should be hooked to pos or ground with a voltmeter? feel like i'm missing something obvious.

That wire goes into the harness that goes to the engine? What year and engine? I'll find a wiring diagram for you.

Grounds on Toyota are almost exclusively White with a Black stripe, that doesn't appear to be a ground.

The main alternator wire is White, looking at that picture it looks like someone ran a different wire to the alternator for some reason because the stock wire isn't Black.

I've been all up in the 1GR family wiring harnesses, and that does not look stock. Wrong lug, wrong color, wrong insulation. I could very well be wrong but I would put money on a surprisingly cleanly installed (good sign) aftermarket something or other.

Check the loose end for continuity with ground - may or may not be, but if so, it tells you that used to be attached to an aftermarket component that has since been removed, and they just left the wire in place.

definitely looks super clean where it goes into harness. i'm not original owner so anythings possible. usually good at noticing this stuff so can't imagine it was loose last oil change. i'd think truck would run worse if it was important. also figured id be able to deduce where it came from base on where it reaches. again, thanks everyone for help

I'm pretty sure that's going to be your stock alternator wire, there are no factory grounds in that location. I just went and double checked on mine.
