Truck is a year old now sow one would think this would be closer by now. How do I get it to read accurately?

You don’t. It always has an extra 1.5+ gallons to help keep you from running out. You can’t make it account for that.

    I think I’ve run mine 30 miles past zero, and I get 23mpg. So…

My 2107 used to read 385-425 after a full up. I get better mpg's with this one

Weird. I’d say it’s not something that’s fixable without drilling into the algorithm that projects your fuel economy and distance to empty. Mine’s super consistent: 378 to empty after fillup. And I’m running 22-23mpg every tank. You could try disconnecting the battery and letting the cpu relearn your habits?

Oh, for sure. I don't daily my truck. It's far too much of a fat pig at this point.

apparently that is the way they are designed, if your older Tacoma didn't do this, Toyota either changed the programing or you had the anomaly.
We live in world where we protect the stupid, so multiple warnings are required,,, even if it means showing "0 miles left" when the tank has several gallons left.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    You probably can't.
    The best gauge of DTE:

Learn how it compares to gallons left in the tank (determined when you fill up).
    Pretty simple.

50 years ago, the owner's manual of a truck told you how to set the valve timing. Now it tells you not to drink the battery acid.
