    Reserected from the dead.
The noisy needle bearing is just noise. Mine has been growling for 200,000 miles.

There has been no reported failure of the bearing.

I doubt I'll ever change mine.

I just had my drivers rear wheel bearing replaced. I went down a straight road and simulated doing a pilon test and the humm would go away when turning to the right. I also swapped out to the ECCG bushing (my truck is lifted) and she's all quite now!

The front wheel bearings are rollers and IME follow the rules I posted. The rear are balls and may not follow the same rule- from what I've been told 50/50. The "pro"
advice is to jack it up and spin the wheel. And if you can't find it, wait until it gets worse. Obviously, this may not work for your usage, but if you're going to keep the vehicle, just change both. YMMV..
