My taco was involved in a collision on Friday night. Parked outside on the street. We were away from the vehicles at the time. Someone hit my buddy’s 80 series land cruiser and the cruiser went into my Tacoma. Tailgate is completely ruined as well as bumper and tail lights. Just have a question about the frame. It seems that my frame is bent just slightly after where the rear bumper / crossmember / tow hitch bolts to the frame. Will provide pictures below. If any one can confirm that the frame is straight in this position. Or bent for crunch purposes in the event of accident ?this does not seem likely to me and I believe I have rear frame damage. It’s the same on both sides.

In the first pic, it looks like the frame is buckled,, sorry probably a new frame on the way. If so, Make sure to inquire about a rental, as the frames apparently can take weeks or months to get, plus the time needed to strip and rebuild.

Six year old truck with frame damage and it looks like the bed is damaged probably totaled.

Is the bed shoved into the cab?

I would absolutely fight for a new frame. Even if that means having or buying a 2nd car to drive, while you wait weeks/months for a frame.

Toyota specifically states their frames are to be repaired with "cold" straightening only. Which means the shop is NOT to heat up the metal in that area when they pull the frame. Most shops don't do that now days anyway.

I highly doubt that frame buckle can be straightened perfectly. It's a super common buckle right at the trailer hitch or bumper bracket attaching point.

rental is fine the responsible party assumed all liability and their insurance is willing to pay out everything. They told me rental will be covered as well as my camper shell that is now bent from the tail gate being forced upwards. I know how it goes though. I’m still paying the truck off. Luckily I do have gap insurance. I have put a bit of money in mods into the truck suspension wise etc but mostly all was bought on marketplace or budget route. nothing crazy. In the event that it is totaled. I may be fucked. I have a 100 series as well, but my son’s mother drives that car. So if it’s totaled I hope I can recoup some funds to get another cruiser or something I love this truck but this is a bummer. As I planned to pay it off and keep it forever. Seems like it’s going to be a major headache going forward and I had a long road trip planned mid December.

The bed is not shoved into the cab but it is indeed bent and the liner is smashed at the end where it meets the tailgate. There is a
surface right above the license plate being where the tailgate hinges and that is also bent in. So who knows. New bed too ? I’m going to go to Collision place in the morning to get some estimates. But I discovered the frame and it kind of changed my thought process on the whole situation.
