    Hello All,

I drive a 96 Tacoma 2.4L 2WD Manual, and my parking brake cable keeps snapping. I have replaced it twice and after about 3 days it will snap at the bottom of the plunger just under the dashboard. Any help with fixing this problem? What parts do I need to replace and where can I get them?

    Thanks,
    Floody

When you replace the cable what brand ??

Are you getting the cable on the pulley correct ??

It sounds like maybe not and the cable is rubbing to it fails

I have replaced quite a few on all my Toyota`s with no problem

I have a snapped parking brake cable on my 2.4L 2WD manual and can't find the part number to replace it. Would you mind telling me what part number it is?

There is a little plastic piece that goes over the end of the cable. It keeps it from twisting in there. I lost mine. I have went through 3 from Rockauto and now I have one from O'Reilleys. yes - I should get the OEM one but in order to get that plastic guide piece I have to buy the entire T handle from Toyota. I bet you that is why yours is breaking. When you push it in the end of that cable will bend slightly to the side and after repeated pulls and setting it frays. It's a super easy job to replace and it is annoying. I was also looking into replacing the whole front system there. I dislike the T Handle.

I know this is an older thread, but I was curious about this. My front parking brake cable just snapped where the cable meets the Handle. This is the second time in the last year. I don’t believe it’s due to any seizing, there is little to no resistance. Could you elaborate on this plastic guide? I don’t believe my truck has it, and I can’t seem to find it on any of the part schematics. I appreciate it.

I ended up buying the OEM front section and the OEM back section as the front section came with that plastic guide. It kind of looks like a wheel that the cable wraps around. My rockauto ones were just very bad quality. It's such a bad design (the T handle) that if you don't go OEM this will happen. I kind of wish I could just fabricate a completely different setup that was in between the two front seats maybe. Mine works now and it's 100% needed with the 3 pedals :)
