    Hi all,
I have some new Bilstein 6112s that I received already assembled with new top hats (not by me). Had a local shop compress the spring and adjust clips to desired settings, but they didn’t fully disassemble them.

My issue is the lower washer and rod adapter are loose and have about 1/4-3/8” slack sliding between the top of rod and bottom of top hat. Based on manufacture’s instructions, I believe the lower washer is correctly oriented concave-up. I understand there should be a lower bushing inside the top hat, but I can’t see in there to confirm it’s present. The upper nut appears to be torqued down properly, as the upper bushing is squished out a bit. Seems like the nut may be bottomed out on the rod threads, as the amount of threads sticking up above the nut look about right based on photos from Bilstein’s assembly instructions and other photos on line.

    Questions:
    1) I’m assuming the lower washer needs to be tight against the bushing-top hat assembly. Am I missing something here?
    2) Has anyone else had this issue?
    3) If the lower bushing was not installed in the top hat, would I only see 1/4-3/8” space? I thought the bushing was always installed from top hat manufacturer.
    4) Could I resolve this by installing a thicker upper bushing without causing performance issues? Maybe a thicker rod adapter?

Thank you for any ideas or insights you may have.

FYI - the part number on shock body is:
    010841 24309981 H0

it sounds like the lower bushing is missing. Its just glued on to the underside of the top mount and they often fall off. You wont know until you disassemble the units what is actually wrong.

Could you provide a picture? I have 6112's for reference. I'll post a pic later this morning.
