My 2003 tacoma is having an issue starting. When I turn the key nothing happens. There isn't even a click. I tried replacing the starter relay but still have the same issue

The battery is metering correctly. When I turn the key to ON everything comes on. When I turn the key to start it, the clock and the radio go out like normal, but still nothing happens. I put a jumper between contacts 3 and 5 on the starter relay port, and the starter cranks, but the engine won't turn over. I've used the "clutch start cancel" button and it still doesn't work. I'm at a complete loss here. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue?

It did come with a factory security system. Could that be the problem?

Do you have a test light?
    If so good....

If not...ok. (But a light is better)

Check the STA Relay while cranking. See if it has power to both sides of the fuse.
If so, then check pin 1 of the STA Relay when cranking

Might as well check the 30A AM2 fuse while you are at it..

Let us know what you find.

I had problems with my dealer installed gulf states security system cause of valet switch when battery disconnected. Search threads for gulf states alarm valet mode procedure it might help if that's the issue. Good luck

I have never seen a factory alarm in a tacoma, only dealer installed systems. Take the knee panel off under the steering column and look at the wiring. If it is an aftermarket system you will see lots of scotch lock connectors and a bosch 5 pin relay. Look at the larger diameter wires that come off the relay and you will see where they cut into the stock harness and spliced the relay in between... this is the wire that makes that starter work, check for power going into and out of the relay when you turn the key to the crank position. I always take thses POS systems out for the exact reason you are here about.

Yeah, I took mine out. There's a great removal thread on TC for the one that was in my truck. I had to after key fob and valet switch broke. POS system left me stranded a few times.

Yeah these are just trouble over time......guarantied fail eventually

and usually fairly easy to remove

golden rule ....take lots of pics.....just in case

Usually its just a bunch of taps........and maybe one wire out of ignition switch cut.....

Even the ignition switch itself eventually wears out........any above 150k are old and crispy.............
