Was changing oil and brain malfunction allowed me to take transmission plug out. 2 quarts of ATF out of 2023 Toyota Tacoma 4wd before realized error. Appears is a major ordeal to add it back requiring electronic gear. Is that the case?

Just add what you drained. Look up for onboard temp mode procedure. Once learn how to put the tranny in the mode, you can check the level

The biggest pain in the ass for me is always removing the fill plug and getting the new fluid in. The lug is up high under the passenger side of the truck. You will also need a fluid pump of some kind to get the new fluid into the fill port.

I have visions of a couple of engineers designing this and laughing it up seeing who can come up with the stupidest design.

"This should work great... no-no let's set this up way up under the passenger side and make it so the
user has to pump the fluid in... " ... rolling on the floor they are...

Ideally you'd check the level at the proper temperature. I think that video explains it. However, you'd be fine to add whatever amount was drained.

It's a good idea to check the level using the temperature method as many of these trucks were underfilled from the factory.

This would be a good time for that along with adding fresh fluid back into the system.

That's my plan at the next drain an fill. After my last oil change I spent some more time crawling under the truck and figuring out how to route the hose to the fill port.

Or do what manufacturers did for years, install a fill tube and dipstick to the engine compartment

Yeah, but then we would still be dealing with DIY goofballs pouring engine oil into their transmissions.

    Many!
If you have a 2021 model, you dont need the OBD jumper wire. I don't know what model years this covers but mine is a 21.

It's easier to do than I thought. Bought a hand pump from Harbor Freight for less than $10 and well worth it!

The tube was lost before 3rd gen.
The tube was a pita to fill and that dipstick was never accurate.
Not to mention the percentage of tw that cannot read the oil dipstick

Get a hand pump—they are about $12 on Amazon. Get 3 qts of ATF. Dump it all in, get to temp, and open the overflow valve. Boom. You're now sitting at the correct amount of ATF, even if your truck came underfilled from the factory. It's really pretty easy to do. I was nervous before I did mine the first time; it just seemed kind of daunting with the temp check procedure.
