Bob is the Oil guy did similar testing a few years ago.

There is *some* merit to a similar process they used *if* you're willing to stretch the OCIs out as shown by the testing process.

Otherwise, just like any short OCI, time, money and resources are being wasted. All in the name of 'its cheap insurance'.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
It’s all good. Lately, I’ve been changing the oil and filter then in a week or two change the filter, again. Why not? I’ve got a metric shit ton of filters sitting around.

You could probably rinse the filters out in the kitchen sink and re use them. Maybe run them through the dishwasher? :notsure:

I've owned cars and trucks in the past that leaked oil so bad the US Military was following it so they could liberate it. I guess if you leak oil that bad you can just keep it fresh weekly

lol that was kinda part of my thought process. Like the old bikes with the one-way waste oil system. Intentionally leaked to keep the chain lubed, just had to top it up regularly

I installed a Fumoto valve on my 2013 4cyl Tacoma a few years back and got on the kick of changing oil every 2500 miles and the filter at 5000 miles. I was using Walmart SuperTech oil. Missed a rotation once and changed the oil at 5500 miles and what drained out still looked as good as new.

I wanted one but it was sold out. The “s” version I believe. It’s in stock now though. Which one did you buy?

I don't remember the exact one, but it makes changing the oil easy.

Title of the thread is "toilet thoughts". If you conducted business while sitting on the toilet, you're at the president level and will get a golden parachute.

Instructions unclear, dropped drain plug in the bowl.

the way I see it you'd basically be avoiding a proper oil change, and constantly running slightly less bad oil for a very short period.

when you drain the quart and add a new quart, the fresh quart of oil will immediately get polluted by the remaining old oil, only barely diluting the old oil. Pretty soon after, that fresh quart, and thus the diluted old oil, will be as contaminated as before. Rinse and repeat.

VS doing an entire oil change, which will replace all oil with fresh oil, and thus take significantly longer to reach it's previous contaminated status.

I'm no expert but that's what I figure. Seems to be the consensus as well

yeah, totally agree. I think the concept does have some merit, but in doing the math I see that returns diminish far too quickly to be worthwhile.

chalking up another reason to not bother getting a fumoto valve lol.

A smart military maintains their technicals. I bet you there’s a few jihadists in charge of vehicle maintenance or the crews maintain their trucks for optimal performance. Can’t jihad if the crankcase self ventilates.

Real overlanding upper-deckers use a $130 Yeti bucket in the roof top tent. It even comes with a clear lid to show off your accomplishment.

Bypass Filtration is the closest thing to this idea, although in a opposite way.
Over at bobistheoilguy there was a guy with a truck/suv who had not technically done an oil change in over 80k miles (but he was changing out his filters and adding top up oil as needed).

    https://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/29026/engine-bypass-filtration

Mostly makes sense on heavy duty machinery that is always working and you can't afford downtime for maintenance.
