Considering all the reports of stolen tacomas, what is the best anti theft device / deterrent / tracker out there?

A garage, kill switch, battery disconnect, air tag(with speaker removed), Samsung tag, full coverage insurance..... are all options. For the most part if they want it then they are getting it.

They have trackers built in with Toyota SOS/DCM so as long as its near a cell phone tower it will be recovered.

We've seen thieves try to disable it with no success. We havent seen a modern 2020 stolen and not recovered yet.

If you disconnect the battery it still transmits and the dcm is hidden.

Please be more specific. I have not seen any reports of stolen Tacomas.

So that's about a 2020 Tacoma, why is it relevant to the 2024 Tacoma forum?

If they are targeting these trucks for a reason, then it matters don't you think? Unless like someone mentioned there is tracking antitheft devices on these 2024 trucks already.

I don’t think you know what that means.

Rather than debating the merit of the question just answer it with your suggestions for anti theft or get on with your life.

@Wahhabm this is a fairly cheap and simple method. You replace a relay, usually fuel pump or ECU, with one that has to be enabled with Bluetooth in order to work. It’s not full proof as someone could pop the hood and replace relays or just flatbed the truck but it does prevent the common method of cloning a key via RF or OBD/CAN and driving away.

The Club is a good deterrent only. It's red, it's metal, and it makes the vehicle parked next to me look easier to take than mine. I don't use it all the time, but my truck survived a week parked in a Seattle parking garage, some major sporting events, blah blah blah. If my truck gets stolen, I don't want it back.

Wow, sounds really effective but probably much more than I am willing to do.

I got a bright red Club around 1990 as a gift. Still works great. I use it on every vehicle when I park in a crappy area. I have never had a vehicle stolen yet including 2 soft tops.

The one caveat with the onboard tracker is that it will not show the vehicle location while it's in motion. So if your truck's gone and they keep it moving, they've got about 12 to 24 hours before it'll show up on an accessible map. Maybe law-enforcement can get more info, but I seriously doubt there's a whole lot of police energy invested in stolen autos.

There have been posters on here who have given tracker info to law enforcement and they’ve done nothing about it.
