Well if you want to feel good about the Subaru and CRVs in Colorado, go to the Tetons. Fuck me it is an absolute shit show. Felt like I was at Costco on the weekend before a snowstorm.

Thats one of the many reasons why denver blows. People move here and within 6 months complain about 70 traffic like they have paid their dues and they arent part of the problem.

    welcome to Denver, California

Eh, obviously different experiences, but I still haven't run into the issue of "overcrowding", except on the slopes, and even there I try to go during the week to beat the crowds. But MTB'ing or off-roading, I guess I randomly just pick the more obscure trails!?!? Outside of coming down from Wheeler this year, it's rare that I run into a group of rigs. But I don't venture north of I-70 much, so that may be part of it. I think most of the trails I've run are far enough from Denver that I don't experience the feeling of being crowded.

Yeah, I like how half the thread is people explaining how stuff gets overcrowded, and the other half keeps naming "hidden gems" and unwittingly blowing up the remaining good spots.

OP, wherever you find your answers to the crowds, don't share it on here.

I think you just need to take longer trips, personally: drive one day to get to base camp, then explore from there. I think in a day's drive from almost anywhere, you can find something as isolated as you could possibly want.

Medano Pass has been super busy since the late 90s.

The best thing to happen to that trail is the implementation of designated campsites.

Even still, idiots late to getting a campsite will go off trail and create their own.

I actually only go camping during the weekdays & do my best to avoid the weekends. The weekends have been nothing but expensive headaches. Its the same @ the KOAs & Jellystone. The weekend camping fees are higher and I save more money when only staying during the week. Holiday rates are too expensive. Our big trip this summer will be to Lake McConaughy in our popup. We'll stay in the campground and not on the beach. Cant wait!
