Is it possible to have the Blind Spot Monitoring system beep/alert or vibrate the steering wheel when it detects someone in your blind spot? Default behavior is that the icon will flash on the appropriate side mirror.

Coming from a 2019 Mazda that beeped whenever you hit the turn signal and someone was in your blind spot, there have been a couple times where I've missed the icon flashing and would've certainly noticed had there been an audible alert.

Pretty sure the answer is no after playing around with the settings and reviewing the manual, but I'm surprised this isn't a feature.

I suppose the thought process behind the design is that a person should be checking their mirrors before changing lanes.

It’s scary that folks rely on beeps and cameras these days instead of just driving responsibly with no senseless distractions (PHONES)…

When I was a teenager (long long time ago) one time I changed lanes (only going about 25 mph) without looking over my shoulder and ran right into the side of a police patrol car. I have never ever since changed lanes without checking the mirror and looking over my shoulder. I can’t imagine relying completely on a fucking electronic monitoring device and not looking over my shoulder. Just dumb and dangerous.

Sounds like an alert would've helped you in that scenario :D

I agree..I'd like to have the beep as an added level of safety. I drive a lot of mazdas for a dealer, new and high milage used..haven't seen any problems with it yet. Drove a honda pilot last week..and it beeped. That being said..I still do shoulder checks.

Some of y’all pick the weirdest little things to get all dramatic about it. Nobody’s relying on the beep or the indicator flashing on the mirror. But a little redundancy doesn’t hurt anything.

Not true. I have a friend I was riding with a couple days ago and while on the freeway he changed lanes probably at least 8 times, not one single time did he look over his shoulder. Every time he changed lanes I started looking over my shoulder to make sure we weren’t going to crash. I’ve seen other people do the same thing. A lot of people are just lazy. I like the blind spot alert thing but I don’t bet my life on it.

It would get really annoying in city driving to have BSM beep every time another vehicle was within the detection zone of either the left or right side of your vehicle.
Rear cross traffic alert beeps (or at least it does in the 3rd gen) because you spend a short, limited time backing out of a parking space/driveway. So it might be a case of, be careful what you wish for.

The Mazda safety technology would only alert if you engaged your turn signal and there was a vehicle in your blind spot. Similar to how the Tacoma flashes a light on the side mirror. Same methodology, just different alert mechanisms.

    Of course there are.

One example would be those who have entered the driving world with those features. And never learned the 'manual' method.

Like only being able to do math with a calculator.

Watched an idiot back out of a parking stall staring at their dash. These devices are meant to enhance driver safety not replace proper driving skills.

id say the view out the back of the cab & out the side looking for your blind-spots isnt the best or the easiest, especially with a bad back, bad neck, bad shoulders, should I keep going....
In the 90's all the cool kids ran "wink mirrors".....
That might be abit much for a $50k truck...
