2024 or 2025 Anybody having Problems

Hi Anybody having any issues with 2024 or 2025 so far and how is that 2.5 turbo holding up, should I give up the 2021 v6 Taco ? Thanks Mark

 

Keep the 2021 and wait a couple more years.
All the "small" kinks should be worked out of the 4th gen by then.

Or buy a 4th gen, leave it alone, and continue the beta testing for the rest of us.

I mean you ask a wide open question like that with a few thousand strangers and you get a big variance in answers. Just thought I'd help.

But seriously. There are a lot of well heeled bleeding edge adapters.

Just like any product, many feel its like the invention of pre-sliced bread, and a few are finding some mold.

I mean turbos have been OE on lots of marquees for literally decades. So it's not new tech.

But I think the thoughts from @TnShooter are solid.

 

wait a couple years and it will be a couple grand more for toyota to fix problems you might not have.. and inflation .

 

In fairness to @mark530 maybe he missed the drama, Toyota's arm chair board of directors, or that some never had to take or pass stats class.

From having fine existing vehicles I would not throw one away prematurely or be too foolish with my money. From having had past Toyota 4x4, different V6 models and 6 speed auto trans plus losing a family member in a pickup with poor safety ratings NO WAY would I buy anything but my 4th gen long bed.

July to now is too soon to make long term judgements but the new engine family dates back to 2017. Way more than 100,000 have been sold now and also Land Cruisers with same parts. Nothing really shows we have trouble or lemons here. Plenty shows Toyota stands behind customers.

My pickup leaves prior generation models in the mirror screaming in pain when it does a climb just shifting down from 8th to 7th. It is quiet, handles well, and no more of that ass clown seating posture or not so comfy seats my earlier Toyotas had. The TSS 3 suite is for sure a lot of menus but it is also really good against the competitors we tested.

Again on safety. Just like that we lost a family member to bad behavior of others. A niece was in a similar accident in an IIHS top safety pick vehicle and walked away from what the craptacular rated for safety pickup turned our loved one in to a mangled bloody dead body. Thank you Toyota for making a top safety pick light truck while most of your competitors make body mangling and people killing crap.

 

Went from a Gen 2 to a Gen 4, have about 2000 miles on my SR5 rear wheel drive. I use the truck a lot for hauling mountain bike stuff, gardening stuff etc, and as a daily driver around town, picking up kids etc. I love the truck, rides more comfortable then my Gen 2. No issues with the engine, if you want the acceleration you can turn the power feature on. Get about 20 mpg per the in board tool. I honestly drive very aggressively and spool the turbo up frequently. There are a few minor UI elements I don't love, I may be able to correct some of them with looking on the manual. I don't love the volume knob on the multimedia screen, its to small and dinky, I don't like the "check back seat beeping", but other then that the tuck has been very nice and I drive the crap out of it.

 

You can turn off check back seat. I have so many things turned off that were distracting me from driving. I have a premium and they went a bit overboard on the nanny control . I might have only gotten a sr5 if I could have long term rented a premium taco first .

 

I broke a 4th Gen today. I went for a test drive ,cranked it put it in gear and made it almost 3 feet before it died. All of the dash lights were flashing and there was a ticking sound like a relay coming from the front.They had to get a tech to come out and fix it. Not sure what happened. I felt bad for the salesman. I did finish the test drive in another Taco. Drives great.

 

Never feel bad for a salesman. They don't feel bad for ripped off customers who don't know any better and pay thousands for a few trinkets of forced add ons worth $100. Or for an inflated interest rate to get a kickback. Or for rebates they forget to tell you about.

If nothing else, that's a reminder why you test drive various vehicles to get a feel for if you even like them and if they're going to work for you and then test drive the one you may actually buy, entirely separately. You do this to make sure it's what you think it is in terms of configuration and to give it a shakedown to make sure it's right before you put pen to paper.

 

I would just skip the 4th gen all together … overpriced and known issues . Toyota quality isn’t what it used to be .

 

I looked at a 4th gen , read some stuff on here , bought a real nice used 23' Sport.

 

There’s plenty to read on the 3rd gen too buddy, 8 years worth…

 

Was at the dealer yesterday walking the lot. Dealers near me don't seem to have many 2024s on their lots and if they do it's usually an SR5. My dealer had a silver one and the door was open. I sat in it for a few minutes. I didn't see any of the fit and finish issues everyone complans about. Seemed to be built with quality on par with my 2022. Some plastics etc but so is mine. Didn't notice any big gaps in body panels or hood alignment. I'm a buyer in a couple years for sure.

 

8 years of issues and shortfalls versus maybe 1, he’s probably in that “I need me a V6, not some turbo 4” crowd.

 

Toyota will probably be selling this platform for the next 20 they would have to be stupid to build anything that wouldn't subsequently score well in a crash test. All it would take is a redesign from any manufacturer to improve upon their midsize truck saftey ratings.

The crash tests often change over time which change the ratings vehicles recieve. Toyota had to design this truck platform to be viable for some time, it's a good thing the Tacoma gets a good score. Toyota isn't building safe cars for your benefit, it's in their best interest to build a platform that can be sold for years to come, sure you benefit from Toyota's goal of building a viable platform by getting a truck that is an a IHS top saftey pick. Why isn't really important.

Thing is I can get a discounted King Cab V6 Frontier 4x4 for a lot less money than a Xtra Cab Rwd Tacoma, last I looked there wasn't even a 4x4 Xtra Cab allocation available with in 1000 miles of me, that includes a lot of dealers.

There was something a couple of weeks ago saying Frontiers are the least safe midsize truck in certain states they do show the most fatalities overall.
