Everything is gonna work completely differently....
thottle body, ecm, tranny,.....list goes on

Even the fuel pump is controlled differently.....older one's ecm interrupts to ground to control it, and newer ones use the positive side in the open control circuit...

    So quite an undertaking

The engines are readily available for either.....would not make sense...
    unless you're just after a 1- or 2-year project....

That 3rz engine is like a jeep legion product......those and the parts for em will be available ......forever......
They used the 3rz in so many base models its ridiculous...

MOst either go low and risk a JDM used engine.....

or go high and get a rebuilt one with warranty...up to 7yrs

The first gen (1995-2004) Tacoma 2.7 is a 3RZ-FE. The second gen (2005-2015) 2.7 is a 2TR-FE. They're distant cousins, and entirely different engines as far as a swap is concerned.

Possible? Technically yes, with a lot of work by a skilled/talented individual. Practical? Absolutely not.

    3Rz(2,7) are readily available....

the later ones 2TR's had ring problems are in higher demand.....but much lower supply...
using one of them you risk getting an oil burner....

IF you have 2TR, its probably safest to go factory crate .......still make em

Thanks I have the 2005 a mechanic destroyed the engine and said oops can't fix it. But a friend said he had a 1999 rebuild from a machine shop. But no I am not looking for a project that's a complete mess. Thanks for the response

Again something that new......toyota still makes/sells every single piece....
they just cant sell you the whole long block........only short blocks and heads

these can have the ring problem......so make sure you get some kind of warranty

these you can do a national search and find a low mileage salvage one.....
......but you'd risk getting one of the older ones with bad rings...

new crated one is safest way.......probably mid 4000's for it with all the gaskets, ect.....plus ship
