I lifted this post from a Corvette group. It contains a good review of SEM Trim Black vs SEM Trim Black Ultra.

So I did a sample of sem color coat satin, trim black, trim black ultra in satin and matte. It was overcast and I need to figure out to take better pictures. I’m think tomorrow I will spray a piece of cardboard with original trim black in the center and the satin and matte on each side and try again.

In person the color coat, original and matte all have the same sheen. The satin does have more gloss. Both of the Ultra paints seem to have a deeper black color.

On a side note, the lady at the paint shop said to to take the spray nozzle off and store the cans upside down. I had never heard that before. She said if you ever sprayed a can and it was hard to push, the paint was dried up at the seal. If you turn the can upside down it will stay wet.

So I sprayed a couple coats last night and one this morning as the cardboard sucks up the paint. This is on a white cardboard box. The ultra matte is on the left, original middle and ultra satin on the right. I didn’t quite get the original in the full middle so it is a little narrower. The matte seems to be a little deeper black depending on the angle. I think I will hold the card up to my leather dash pad and see which looks the best. I believe the satin may have a little too much gloss for a dash application.

BIG difference with the Ultra satin vs regular. Even the matte is way blacker. Thanx for the info on the experiment Chris. Now I know I made the right call sticking with the regular trim black for all the dash. I may try the Ultra satin on the convertible top frame. I was planning on using VHT roll bar & chassis satin on that, but may change my mind now.
