Get yourself a oil pan mat.. keeps the oil from splashing all over the place

I figured these were a thing and just haven't had chance to grab one.

    back to bone stock.
i use ramps maybe 50% of the time but the extra height of the old drop usually causes me more mess.. but honestly, i could just drive one side of the truck up on my sidewalk-curbs, and slide under it if i am feeling overly bloated.

I have plastic ramps and 4wd helps, front wheel drive cars typically dont have issues.

Yeah that thing doesn't drain oil. It hemorrhages the oil. It's like a full on food poisoning bowel venting spray.

Many dealers will only do the free oil changes at the 10,000 and 20,000 miles.

I use ramps, but only pull the truck half-way up. That gives me enough room to hold a bucket right uder the oil plug and avoid a mess.

And that's one reason I added a Fumoto valve with the add-on hose.

No ramps needed without a spoiler. If I did use ramps, I would use them on the BACK. That way, the oil draining from the filter does not land on the cross member.

They added a nice flange to direct the oil from the filter pad, but it still tends to drip on the x-member. If they only extended that flange a teeny bit more...

Yeah, I normally would not consider this, since the drain plug is so easy to access without skid plates, but that hot 0w-20 does tend to flow (and splash) like water!

That's why I designed this and printed it off:

It works well. If you know someone with a 3D printer, the file and instructions are here:

Good solution! I was planning to rig something up for the next oil change. Although mine will probably include a cut up plastic jug and will look like a 3rd grader's science project. Or ramps on the rear of course. :)

Oh, and that pic reminded me of those soft, rubber hoses used for the oil cooler. That seems like a future disaster to me. Anyone else concerned about that? I don't plan to do anything about it, but AN fittings and braided steel lines would look a LOT better there!

EDIT - After looking at that pic again, I realized that the hoses are not carrying hot, pressurized oil, but coolant. So not a disaster waiting to happen - but I do question the efficiency of that oil cooler.

Would you please share the model/part# of the Fumoto you bought, or link even? Thanks in advance!

I use a hydraulic jack right behind the driver side recovery hook and lift the truck about 4 to 5 inches. It makes getting under an back up again much easier. Im not overweight either.

All too true. Just talked to the service bay rep. this week about the "free" oil changes that came with my purchase. Every 10K mi. Also get two additional "free" oil changes. I asked the rep if I could do those on the intervening 5k marks and they said nope, the two extra "free" changes can only be applied after the 10K interval ones run out.

Looks like I'm doing changes at 5k, 15k, 25K, etc.

After the debacle I had with my F150 2.7L Ecoboost and it's turbos, It's going to be 5k miles oil changes for me.

That one may stick out a bit. The one I installed tucks in nicely.

Nice guide so you don't make a mess. Unfortunately no 3d printer to make it.

if you use the Fumoto with the hose, no need for that. 3 feet of drain hose will easily reach your pan.
